Serializing objects to XML that don't have default constructors?

KK
I'd really like to use XML serialization for a data file that's important to
my application. The data file will be used later at runtime to populate a
PropertyGrid. The problem for me is that XML serialization doesn't work on
objects without parameterless constructors.

This is bad, because there are several important System.Drawing namespace
objects I'd like to save, but they all have parameterless constructors. The
most notable of these is System.Drawing. Font. I don't want to use a binary
file format because I'm storing other things in the data file too, and I'd
like to be able to take advantage of schema validation to ensure that
everything's properly formatted.

Is there a quick and easy solution to this? Heck, is there *any* solution to
this? ;-)

Thanks for any help you can give. =)

All, I have quite a challenging task ahead of me. I need to write an object model (for code access) based on a schema, which cannot be made into a dataset because of it's complexity. So I created a couple of objects and serializing it into XML based upon the schema works perfectly. The XML / Schema looks something like this:

I am having trouble serializing a color property. Basically, it is not serializing the value. For instance, in the following: <Serializable()> _ Public Class TestColor Private _MyColor As System.Drawing.Color = System.Drawing.Color.Red Public Property MyColor() As System.Drawing.Color Get Return _MyColor

I've got a basic "chat" infrastructure that can send objects across the wire, but I'm running into a few issues with trying to send multiple messages and things behaving differently in debug and release... Is there anyone out there that considers themselves a threading / sockets / serialization guru? Not sure if it's appropriate to post an entire project here and the issues discussion is probably a bit too complex for newsgroup back and...

I logged construtor and destructor calls for one of my classes and I discovered that the constructor was called only once while the destructor was called 3 times for a single object. I have a vector of objects of class A: vector<Avector_of_As; and I put objects to it like this: vector_of_As.push_back( A() );

As the topic says, I wanted to make a re-usable singleton class that could create pointers to objects with non-trivial constructors. I came up with this: #ifndef SINGLETON_HPP #define SINGLETON_HPP template<typename T> struct DefaultCreatorFunctor {

How valuable is it that class objects behave like built-in types? I appears that the whole "constructor doesn't return a value because they are called by the compiler" thing is to enable built-in-like behavior for objects of class type. That leads to the "necessity" for the exception machinery so that errors from constructors can be handled. Is all that complexity worth it just to get built-in-like behavior from class objects? Maybe a...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
