Hi,
I know that it is illegal in C++ to have a static pure virtual method,
but it seems something like this would be useful when the following 2
conditions hold:
1. You know that every one of your Derived classes will need to
implement some method, but implement it differently, and that the base
class cannot implement it. This is where pure virtual comes in.

Just want to see if this is 'by design' or a bug...
I have a common List<T> defined in a base class, and the base class has a
static property to expose this list.
I wanted the derived class to add items to this list, but have the base
class hold the data and expose the property.
Problem is, however, that the derived class' static constructor doesn't get
called when DerivedClass.MyList is accessed, so the list has no members. If

I have a need to make a set of classes that all share the same public
methods, some implementation and some data. So, I made an abstract
base (BaseClass) with an interface (IBaseClass) and a handful of
inherited classes. The static method calls the ctor of the appropriate
inherited class and returns it as type IBaseClass. There are no new
methods or properties in the inherited classes and public clients never
need to know which...

I have a class named myclass that inheirits from "baseclass". There is a
property of "baseclass" that I don't want exposed in the IDE. The MSDN
documentation says"
"A derived type can hide an inherited member by defining a new member with
the same signature. This might be done to make a previously public member
private or to define new behavior for an inherited method that is marked as
final. "
However, this does not hide the...

in a generic class, can I code the class so that I can call a static
method of the generic class T?
In the ConvertFrom method of the generic TypeConvert class I want to
write, I have a call to the static Parse method of the conversion
class.
if (InValue is string)
return T.Parse((string)InValue);
else
return base.ConvertFrom(context, culture, InValue);

class C1

public:

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
