DataSet / Serialization & Custom Collections

Does anyone know whether you can take a dataset and serialise into a custom
collection?

Over the past couple of months I've been retreiving my datasets and manually
iterating them to create my custom object based upon field 1, field 2 etc
then adding that manally to my custom collection.

This seems to be an Order N process, and it just _feels_ wrong. Anyone know
of a Order 1 way to do this?

To me it seems sensible, as you can bind a custom collection or a dataset to
a datagrid as they support the IEnumerable interface.

Any ideas??

Thanks.

(I posted this in languages.vb also... I can't figure out where things go if you use a little of a lot of things) Hi all... I'm looking for an example (or a pointer to one) related to the following. I have a WebService (it works) that fetches data, turns it into XML and returns it to a vb.net client. The "data" though represents property values for an object which the vb.net client has created and now has to load. Just about every...

Hi I am serializing a dataset using a binary formatter as follows: IFormatter formater = new BinaryFormatter(); formatter.Serialize(stream, ds); // ds=DataSet, stream=MemoryStream .... DataSet ds2 = (DataSet)formatter2.Deserialize(stream2); For the size of my DataSet, its taking 0.8 seconds to serialize and 2.3 seconds to deserialize.

Hi, I am working with the beta version of the new .net framework (Whidbey) and I encountered a problem with serialization that did'nt exist in the .net 2003 the situation is like this : I have a class that inherits from dataset, and I want to serialize it , so I created a serialization constructor that forwards the call to the base class (the dataset) serialization constructor, normally, for this action to succeed I am supposed to put...

We are designing a WinForm application ( three tiered) There is a debate in our group as to whether we should pass datasets or our custom collections from business layer to the user interface layer. The data is stored in memory (fetched from DB only once). The collection is dynamic in the sense that it can change. My personal opinion is that using dataset makes you code take much more memory than a custom collection. Datasets have...

I am implementing a web service and thought it may be a good idea to return a more complex class (which I have called 'ServiceResponse') in order to wrap the original return value along with two other properties... bool error; string lastError; My whole class looks like this... using System;

Hi guys, I'm really hoping that someone can help me... I have 3 datasets. One that will contain the initial information when I open up the database; one that will pull in information afterwards; and a 3rd to show the changes that have occured since merging #1 and #2. Now when I'm testing this data, it seems that HasChanges always returns true. Am I invoking something wrong? Am I not using AcceptChanges and HasChanges properly?? ...

Hi Does anyone know if there any dotnet software out there which converts a dataset into a collection of custom objects, programmatically i.e. actually creates the class structure and collection class on-the-fly based on the fields in the dataset and then creates and populates the classes and adds them into the collection. Thanks

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
