GUI Application Design - Multiple apps

Hi,

I have been considering how to personalize mini functional
applications and I was wondering if there is an easy way to do the
following for an client application design

a) User runs myapp.exe
b) User login
c) Personalized toolbar appear
d) Each icon on the toolbar is a separate application which inherits
authenticated login
e) User can add/remove apps from the toolbar

I guess the big issue is that I do not want to have a separate
executable nor a separate project for every mini app. I would like
the windows to appear separately on the toolbar so that they seem
completely separate.

Is this possible?

I am planning on developing an application which will involve skills that I have very little experience of - therefore I would appreciate comments on my initial design thoughts. Overview on system: I'm not going to divulge the exact aims of the application but the purpose of it is to allow multiple client applications to retrieve data from a database (on a db server) and feed this data into another Windows

This may be more of a Visual Studio question than a C# question, but it came up within the context of a C# app, so here it is. In a Windows Form or a Web Form application, you can drag various DataAdapters and create DataSets bound to them so everything is strongly typed - a very nice feature. Why in the world can this not be done the same way for ANY type of application (say, Console, or Class Library). What do these features have...

I am having trouble understanding the ASP.NET application boundaries. Here's my setup: 1. Win2003 Server with IIS 6 and an application defined at the root "SalesNow" (www.salesnow.com). 2. A Default.aspx at the root which redirects the user to "Pages/Main.aspx" using javascript window.location. 3. On the Pages/Main.aspx page a HyperLink control which I add a javascript onclick event which does the following: - NewLeadWin =...

Many (if not most) have said that code-behind is best if working in teams - which does seem logical. How do you deal with the flow of the work? I have someone who is good at designing, but know nothing about ASP. He can build the design of the pages in HTML with tables, labels, textboxes etc. But then I would need to change them to ASP.net objects and write the code to make the page work (normally I do this as I go - can't do this...

Hello, We are going to develop our application from scratch. The application is currently written for WIN32 users only, using MFC. The requirements asks that the application will run (in the future) on Windows, MAC and Linux. Is there any way to write all the code on the .NET Framework, or I should write the core code in native C++ and write the top level modules (including GUI) in .NET Framework (using C#), so I can use the core code in...

I have a global.asax file with Application_Start defined and create some static data there and in another module used in the asp.net application and I realize that static data is shared amongst child apps of an IIS application and can be used by multiple users during the application life cycle and for multiple page loads for the same or different page under a root application. What I don't understand and need to know is whether that...

I am looking for an application that will wrap my .Net application (and any needed .Net parts) into a single exe. I know of Thinstall ($4,000 for application and per copy fees for your exes) and of Xenocode (~$1,500 plus ~ $12 per copy of your exe). But, I'd like something that is actually affordable for a hobbyist programmer. This capability (Thinstall's being able to wrap a .Net app and ship it as a single exe) would be a FANTASTIC...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
