Trace or Debug with TextWriterTrace Listener

I have a console application for which I have atttemped to use
TextWriterTrace Listener.
The app uses System.Diagnost ic

I want to trace or debug to Console and also to file.
code in Main() includes:
TextWriterTrace Listener fw = new TextWriterTrace Listener(myFile );
TextWriterTrace Listener sw = new TextWriterTrace Listener(Consol e.Out);
Trace.Listeners .Add(fw);
Trace.Listeners .Add(sw);
Trace.AutoFlush =true;

As I understand it trace and debug are enabled by default. I have added
/d:TRACE to the command line.

My problem is that all calls to Trace.WriteLine or Debug.WriteLine are
skipped over.

What am I doing wrong?

cheers

Peter

Hi, I'm having trouble setting up a config file based trace switch & listener. I added an application config file to my console based C# program using the "Add New Application Config File" button from solution explorer. My config file is composed of the following, which is almost a verbatum cut & paste from MSDN help: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>...

Hi all, How can I save trace output to the text file in app's dir. In addition, I need to save debug info from Session_End event in global.asax. The code below saves file only in Windows\System32 dir. TextWriterTraceListener tracer = new TextWriterTraceListener("traceout.txt"); Trace.Listeners.Add(tracer); Trace.WriteLine("Exception"+ex.Message); tracer.Dispose();

I am trying to build a generic system for tracking unhandled errors which will place such errors into a log file and the event log. The code is listed below. When I try to run this code below, I get the error message "The source was not found, but some or all event logs could not be searched." The error message occurs when I run the first Trace.WriteLine. Any help you can offer would be fantastic. Taylor

When Tracing in ASP.NET, the IIS process (on IIs5.1) is locking on the Trace file, and I can't read the trace file without restarting the IIS: Even the following does NOT work (how could I fix this??): System.Diagnostics.Trace.WriteLine(System.DateTime.Now.ToLongTimeString()+ "--" + dirException.ToString()); System.Diagnostics.Trace.Flush(); ((System.Diagnostics.TraceListener) System.Diagnostics.Trace.Listeners).Close();

At present I'm generating a log file during program execution by creating a console log trace and sending it to an external file thus: Debug.Listeners.Add(New TextWriterTraceListener(Console.Out)) Debug.Listeners.Add(New TextWriterTraceListener(Application.UserAppDataPath + "\log.txt", "log file")) Now a good feature here is that if "log.txt" already exists and is in use (for example when I have multiple instances of the client...

According to http://www.15seconds.com/issue/020910.htm I am doing this in the c'tor of a 'logfile' class: objStream = new System.IO.FileStream(logFilename, System.IO.FileMode.OpenOrCreate); objTraceListener = new TextWriterTraceListener(objStream); Trace.Listeners.Add(objTraceListener); So, now all Debug.Write and Trace.Write get logged to the file. In the d'tor I am doing:

Hi all, I'm trying to use the Trace class to log messages to a simple text file. I need to be able to provide a custom filename to be used. I've created a TextWriterTraceListener and added it to the Trace.Listeners collections but nothing ever seems to get written to the file. The file does get created, but calling the Write methods doesn't seem to do anything.

When asp.net trace is enabled in web.config, http://mywebserver/myApp/trace.axd list parameter/value pairs for each control in the HTML Form, ok (this is basic asp.net information and work for all asp.net applications independently how the asp.net application is programmed) I would like..to save this information to a file o database (because trace.axd information is not persistente, ..is lost when application pool is recycled)

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
