How to determine which certificate that client uses?

Hello, I have a Web Server which uses Certificate Authority(CA) and SSL.

One computer with client certificate can browse web pages of this web
server;
Another computer without client certificate can't browse web pages of this
web server,
and it shows error message.

Are there any ways for asp.net and asp to catch this error message,
and doesn't let user see this error message and telling them why has this
error message?

And can asp.net and asp web page determine which certificate that user uses?

Thanks.

Hi, We are trying to add a Client Certificate support for our web app that emulates a hardware device web app. The hardware uses a 2 factors authentication, which requires a Web Service client to send: Client Certificate and Username / password. We are using a Web Service provider which uses IIS 5.1 as HTTP server. IIS is set to require client certificate and Basic Authentication.

I am working on a special ASP.Net application that receives files from customers. The connection is made via HTTPS and the client sends the file as a POST to my ASP.Net listener. All of this works fine. Now I am looking at how to validate the clients certificate programmatically. The client application sends to me with something like: .... Dim myHttp As HttpWebRequest = CType(WebRequest.Create(https://myserver/Receive.aspx),...

I'm building a .NET web service which requires client certificate for strong security. I set IIS to require SSL and client certificate (under site properties in IIS admin, Directory Security tab, Secure Communication, Edit... button. then check Require Secure Channel and Require Client Certificates). Then in my client side code, I add my client certificate to the property HttpWebClientProtocol.Certificates. However, I keep getting a...

Hello, I have a web based application for our internet. I see some sites have https, called certificate. I have the following questions: 1. I am wondering if it is really required to have a certificate if you are keeping some confidential data in your database. 2. Where exactly is security increased with https? 3. Is there a way to get certificate for free for testing purposes? Thanks

Hi All, We are developing a web service that will be consumed by an external java-based client (using AXIS if that helps). Their specification dictates that we will use SSL Mutual Authentication. In order for this to work, I assume they will provide me with the public key of their certificate and we will configure IIS to accept the root authority (who will be their own internal CA I'm assuming) on the certificate as a trusted CA. I'm OK...

I am trying to have a SslStream client and an SslStream server mutually authenticate and communicate with each other, over TCP. So when I call the methods AuthenticateAsClient() and AuthenticateAsServer() with CRL checking disabled (last argument: false) everything works fine. Now I want to incorporate CRL checking during the validation process. When I specify the CRL checking argument: true, I get RemoteCertificateChainErrors on both the...

I am developing a WCF based app on Vista using IIS 7.0 but it will be deployed on Microsoft Server 2003 with IIS 6.0. The app uses WSHttpBinding and mutual Certificate authentication. The app works fine in the Vista IIS7.0 environment, but when moving it to the test environment that matches production, I cannot get certificate authentication to work. I get the following error: "The certificate that was used has a trust chain that cannot be...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
