Hi
when installing a shared assembly into the GAC, do I have to check whether
the GAC already have the assembly with the same strong
name(name,version,publickeytoken and culture) before installing it using
gacutil.exe? when there is another copy already installed do I need to take
special steps to quit the installation process.
Is this check necessary? or the gacutil.exe or the GAC will handle this
scenario automatically and will not...

products. However I just found out that our version of InstallShield
doesn't support 64-bit deploys and it costs $700 to upgrade to the version
that does.

the 23megabytes .net basic package that Microsoft seems
to want to impose on everyone using .net-applications.

Is there a way to distribute for installation PDB files for assemblies that
are going into the GAC?
I've read info about the possibility of changing registry settings,
searching out assembly folders and manually copying the PDB's into the
folders, but I would like to be able to create a distribution package that
automatically installs the PDB's in the GAC location - so that when clients
get exceptions they can report good stack trace...

Does anyone know a good article on how to do this? I have read the C#
article on the MS support site, however I still have a few questions:
Does the dll always have to be located in a bin directory?
From my early attempts at installing to the GAC, I noticed that the codebase
property held the location of the dll. However some of the other assemblies
has noting in the codebase property, why is this?

I am working on an installer application to install 2 COM components in
the system32 directory. I had this implemented previously to install
to a different directory (i.e. C:\sample\dll) and it worked fine. The
setup app seems to crash though when I changed the path to
C:\windows\system32. This is the error I receive...

setup and deployment project
For some .net assemblies (not part of the GAC) I want to install them to a
subfolder under my program folder to make the main folder less cluttered
I install them to \DLLs folder as part of the windows installer setup

I'm installing Saxon.Net - an XSL 2.0 parser.
I have the dll's that were supplied installed in the GAC folder and I have
it working in ASP.Net by putting the dll's in the /bin folder, but so far no
luck in regular VB.net 2005.
I don't want to have to put a copy of the dll's in each projects folder.
Where do I have to put them so my assemblies will find them?

I read some where that in 2003 you could not able to install
application assemblies in GAC.In Visual Studio 2005 you can even add
application assemblies to the GAC .You can install Exe to GAC.
But i tried with creating small console application and set strong
name to it. When i install it to gac its getting installed in gac.

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
