Hi folks,
I'm a Java programmer and now I have to use C# for a new large
project. The language is the best I've ever seen. In some points it
goes far beyond Java. I like that.
But then there was a great dissappointments about WinForms. Compared
with Java/Swing (skip the performance, I mean the development) it is
very poor at first sight. It reminds me when I startet in 1995 with
Delphi (guess a guy named Heilsberg is the reason ...

I'm building a WinForms app that is a companion to a Pocket PC app. The
WinForms app initiates a separate thread that calls a Notification window.
This window resides in the lower right corner of the screen and keeps the
user informed about what is happening during data transfer to/from the Pocket
PC.
Everything has been working fine with the Notification window until now.
Here's the problem:
I'm using RAPI to copy the required CAB...

Hello,
I'm writing an extension class for the winforms button control using MC++.
I created a class, derived from System::Windows::Forms::Button.
In my class I want to extend the functionality of the Image-property, so I
added the followind functions:

There doesn't seem to be any documentation on how to create and/or use an
instance of System::Drawing::Graphics. On-line MSDN talks about this class,
and says:
" The Graphics class provides methods for drawing objects to the display
device. A Graphics object is associated with a specific device context. "
Great. So how about explaining HOW to do this? Or perhaps a code example? Or
at least a CONSTRUCTOR (or some explanation on how to...

I have a windows application written in Visual Basic 6.0 that is going
to be redeveloped in dotNET. We are trying to decide if we should
deploy using Webforms or Winforms and I need advice from someone who is
not on my team.
The VB 6.0 application is used by approximately 100 users. All users
reside in-house. There is an existing external website that will use
some of the same components but the two applications are separate.
The...

I have a windows application written using VB .NET that encompasses a
countdown timer modal dialog. The timer is a System.Timers.Timer with
an interval of 1 second. AutoReset is not set so accepts the default of
True. The Elapsed event handler updates the dialog box with how long
before it will close, acting as a timer itself. The dialog has a time
to close property which is checked every time the Elapsed event fires.
The problem I have...

Hi All,
Is there a good book or paper on conceptualizing Winforms as objects?
In object-oriented programming I don't find it diffiucult to see
"student", "person", or "car" as objects, but I do have problems
conceptualizing a "form" and controls on forms as objects and how they
fit together. Is there anything specifically on dealing with forms
while maintaining the OO model and design in C#?
Thanks much,

I am getting the following error message in my WinForms project:
---
An unhandled exception of type 'System.AccessViolationException'
occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll
Additional information: Attempted to read or write protected memory.
This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
