Bizarre service install error...

Here's a Bizarre one:

I have a C# service program. The service registers and runs fine on one machine but when I copy the EXE to a second machine and try to use InstallUtil to register the service on the second machine it bails out with:

"No publicly exported Installers with RunInstaller attribute set to Yes"

This is bizarre since the EXE does register on one machine. I checked and I am an Administrator on the target install machine AND the correct version of the .NET Framework is also installed on the target machine...

Any ideas???

I fixed it:

Note to self --> when multiple versions of the .NET runtime are installed on your machine be certain that you are running the correct version of InstallUtil for the application that you wish to install/uninstall...

I am having some trouble with a windows service I am trying to install. It builds just fine, but when I try to install it using an MSI created from a ..NET setup project, I get this error: Exception occurred while initializing the installation: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: File or assembly name savetrains.exe, or one of its dependencies, was not found.. (savetrains.exe is the executable for my service) If I install it from the...

Hi all: I read an article from http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/Code/2003/Sept/InstallingWinServiceProgrammatically.asp about how to install a windows service programmatically. Based ont the code sample, it provides the feature to install service under LocalSystem account. What I need is to install service under some other certian account. By further studying the code, and MSDN...

Running the code below, I get the error Cannot start service from the command line opr debugger. A Windows Service must first be installed (using installutil.exe) and then started with the ServerExplorer..... But the text log from my install shows this: Running a transacted installation.

I created a simple windows service. However when I built it again a couple of days later I could no longer install the service. The InstallUtil.exe cannot UNINSTALL the service because "The specified service does not exist as an installed service" However InstallUtil.exe cannot INSTALL the service because "The specified service already exists." Are there some registry entries I have to remove?

I've been trying to bring up an IMP webmail server for...oh, several days now. I've never had so much trouble bringing up any machine, and I've beaten my forehead flat against it. Either I've been at it too long, or I've been at it too long and there's a bug here somewhere. Basically, I had a working machine up until yesterday, with gd.so, imap.so, ldap.so, mbstring.so, mcrypt.so, and pgsql.so all up and running nicely. At that point...

We've got a wierd failure happening on just one machine. One part of our product uses a 3rd party search implementation (dtSearch). DtSearch has a native core (dten600.dll), late-bound, and a managed wrapper (dtSearchNetApi2.dll). For reasons unknown our build and msi packaging process includes dtSearchNetApi2.dll but not dten600.dll in all packages, as well as a couple of assemblies that reference it, even though they are not used by...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
