Hello experts!
I know it's easy to override when you have inheritance.
But if you instead use object composition having a pointer to a class X.
If you want to override when having this object composition how is that
done.
Give some easy example if you have some.

Hi,
I implemented a composite pattern which should be serializable to xml.
After spending some time in the newsgroups, i finally managed
serializing, even with utf-8 instead of utf-16, which causes ie
problems. But when deserializing the xml into the object structure,
the following exception is beeing thrown:
There is an error in XML document (3, 701).

Can't compile. Does this mean that all functions that throw exceptions
must be of return type void?
examples:
// won't compile: "not all code paths return a value"
public override int Run() {
throw new Exception("exception thrown");
}

How do you make a member of a class mandatory to override with a _new_
definition? For example, when inheriting from
System.Collections.CollectionBase, you are required to implement certain
methods, such as public void Add(MyClass c).
How can I enforce the same behavior (of requiring to implement a member with
a new return type in an inherited class) in the master class (similar to the
CollectionBase)?
I have a class called...

Hi,
I have a textbox with a Custom Validator that utilizes the OnServerValidate
method for that textbox. This works fine, however the method only executes
when data exists in that textbox after the Submit button is clicked. If I
click the submit button and no data exists in the textbox, the
OnServerValidate method does not fire.
I'd like the OnServerValidate method to either execute every time the Submit
button is clicked. I am...

I am deploying to a web environment that uses load balancing and to insure
that sessions persist across servers, the environment uses SQL to manage
sessions. The machine.config file determines how all applications will use
sessions and to insure that all application use this method, the session
properties cannot be overriden.
Within the sessionstate tags, the webadmin (upon my request)r emoved the
property for timeout, hoping that...

When one overrides the Equals() method of an object, one is supposed to
override GetHashCode() as well and this makes good sense. But I have seen
lots of people who do this and do not override the == and != opperators. Am
I missing something or when would one want to have different implementations
for Equals and ==?

We're pretty new to ASP.Net 2.0 and we're having a discussion about best
practice when developing custom server web controls.
I can see that in for example the Wizard control the table contained within
is a control and all the children are controls.
That seems to be a good practice to me, use controls when possible.
On the other hand one of the developers here wants to override the Render
methods and create child tables with strings and a...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
