Dataset with multiple Datatables

Hi,

I have an app that uses a typed dataset to persist user data. The dataset
has a multiple tables with multiple table relations. The problem I am
running into is that the user data is dynamic and is not predictable at
design time. What I mean by this is the forms that user inputs data is not
static - it changes dynamically at runtime based on user input. This makes
it difficult to persist the data in a dataset with multiple tables. Each
time the data could be different which means that sometimes tables are not
used or certain fields. In this situation I have used a custom class with
properties and used reflection to save the data. I could get this to work
with reflection however I am having trouble with the multiple tables. If
everything was in one table it would be no problem however I cannot do this
(no nomeralization = bad db design). I have thought about using attributes
with each property which could help me map each field to the correct data
table. Right now my design is having a custom class that encapsulates the
dataset and using the custom class handle the behavior of the typed dataset.
Any suggestions? I would really like to use the typed dataset versus a
custom class because of all the benefits of a typed dataset (concurency, xml
support...).

Thanks

Hi, I have a problem that might be easy to solve(possibly, I've just overlooked an easy solution). Here we go: I have a dataset with 2 datatables in it. Now, I need to do the following: if ds.table(0).rows(0).item("col1") = ds.table(1).rows(0).item("col2") then txtResult.text = ds.table(1).rows(0).item("col3")

Hi, I've got a simple console app that just reads an XML file into a DataSet then prints out a description of each table in the DataSet, including column names and row values for each column. I'm getting some strange results depending the input XML file I use. I was wondering if somebody could help me understand what is going on or point me to a good reference. The code for my program looks like this:

I have a dataset with multiple data tables. I need to bind this to a wizard interface, where each portion of the wizard udates the information in one of the datatables. I am using formviews in each screen of the wizard since this seems to be the only way to databind anything in ASP.Net 2.0. I could not set the datasource to go against the dataset directly, since the methods to populate the dataset are in the dataadapter objects, and...

The code i'm writing is using VB .NET and is for a web service returning a dataset, which is in turn to be used by an ASP .NET application displaying a datagrid. I'm currently populating a datagrid using a "select top 1 column 1, column2, column3 from tblTable" statement. As there will only ever be one row returned I want to be able to to switch the column names to be row1 and the column values to be row 2 i.e. select house, street,...

I have a function that creates a DataSet, populates its many DataTables and then returns the DataSet. I want to bind separate controls to each of the DataSet's DataTables, e.g. a separate GridView for each DataTable. As far as I can tell, the ObjectDataSource only binds to the DefaultView of the DataSet's first DataTable. I'd like to know how to bind to the other DataTables or, if this is not possible, what alternative technique is...

Hi Guys Is there any way in c# (or vb.net) to extract a datatable of data from a dataset with multiple datatables which has relationships set up (containing combined data from the datatables)? I currently have 2 datatables in the dataset. The first one contains the header records with columns such as Id, DateCreated, DateModified, etc The second datatable contains the detail records and has columns such as Id, BatchId (which links to...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
