dropdownlist returning wrong index

Hi,

I have a dropdownlist with x amount of list items, however quite often a lot
of the list items have the same value.

The dropdownlist is bound to an ArrayList of objects and I'm using the
selectedindex (-1) to access the corresponding object of the item selected
from the list.

However, for instance, if there is 5 items with the same value, and I select
the 5th of those items which maybe index 10, the selectedindex propert
returns the index of the first item with that value, i.e. index 6.

At the moment I'm using a hidden control and some javascript to get round
it, but I was wondering if anyone knows:

a) why it is doing this?
b) how can it be resolved?
Thanks,
John

I've discovered a very odd bug when attempting to put a dropdown list in a datagrid. In the page PreRender step, the selected index of the datagrid is successfully set during databinding. Yet, when the datagrid enters it's own OnPreRender, the selected index has reverted to zero. I created a debug version of the dropdown list which inherited from dropdownlist and overrode the selected index property to trace.write whenever it was...

I have a DropDownList that is returning the value from index 0 regardless of which item is selected. The code that I am using to test which index it is returning is: Label1.Text = ddlDeleteEvents.SelectedIndex This is the first line of code in a Button's Click event handler, so I know that there is no other code changing the selected value before I use it. What is happening here? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm using a DropDownList in an EditItemTemplate column. This DropDownList will only ever have two dates in it; Now and the default DateTime value (1/1/1900 12:00:00 AM). Somewhere, somehow, the DropDownList is interpreting the default DateTime value as a string value "1/1/0001 12:00:00 AM". DateTime.Parse in turn converts that string value to #12:00:00 AM# with no date values. What am I doing wrong here? Here is some relevant code...

Why doesn't the the SelectedIndexchanged event for my dropdownlist ever get executed? Why do I get a page not found error when I select a new item? My dropdownlist is within a form. The items for the dropdownlist are added at form load by a procedure. Autopostback is set to true, and viewstate is enabled. I have placed a stop at the first line of code for the SelectedIndexChanged event and I have determined that the code is not...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
