I am trying to use shadow copying provided by the framework, but I am not
able to get it to work. More specifically, after a new app domain is created
and the assembly loaded in it, it is still not possible to replace the
original DLL although it has been shadow copied to the cache folder. I need
to be able to replace plug-in DLLs while the server is running. I guess that
is what shadow copying exists for, but the DLL is locked until the...

Hello,
I have an application that references about 40 assemblies
(approx 80MB in total). I've installed the application on
the network share and given a client PC full trust access.
When I launch the application from the network it takes
approx 4 minutes to startup, I've done network traces and
found that it's spending all it's time downloading the 40
assemblies (approx 80MB).

I'm designing an application framework which will, amongst other things,
live in an assembly hosted in the ASP.NET worker process, servicing
webservice requests.
Here's the scenario:
APPFX is our application framework assembly. It has no life of its own -
it's designed to provide components that are glued together by another, main
application assembly - let us call it APP. Thus, APP uses APPFX, and APP is
registered with ASP.NET as a...

I am using the CompileAssemblyFromSource method of an ICodeCompiler instance
to dynamically compile an assembly used by a Web Application. The assembly
may be recompiled any number of times during a day as a user changes the
underlying code. Each time the assembly is compiled it's version is updated
e.g. from 1.0.0.1 to 1.0.0.2 and so on.
The assemby is compiled into a directory which has been setup to shadow copy
using the...

Hello, my app needs to copy a file from local TEMP folder to network
share. The network share is accessible via a domain ID.
I am trying to call LogonUser API, then ImpersonateLoggedOnUser, then
copy the file to this share. But I keep on getting errors. Even though
all the APIs return success, copying files still comes back with "Access
denied" type of errors.
Am I missing something here?
Thanks

Hello, my app needs to copy a file on a network share. The network
share is accessible via a domain ID, which has all possible folder
rights assigned to it. I am using the impersonation code from here
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/cpref/html/frlrfSystemSecurityPrincipalWindowsImpersonationContextClassTopic.asp?frame=true
The code seems to properly impersonate (as evidenced by debug
statements),...

We're in the process of writing a new Windows Forms app and the desktop
support folks want for it to be run from a network share. I know it's
possible (i.e., just have the framework on the clients and a desktop
shortcut to the exe out on the network)... but is it really a good idea?
What are some arguments for and against running a .NET Windows Forms client
from a network share? Here is my initial list... I'd appreciate any
additions,...

I created a pretty basic program based on the "Windows Forms Application"
template using C++ in VS 2005. When I run the program from my local system
it runs properly (do happy dance), now when I copy the same program to a
network share (I have a drive mapped to it) and execute the same program I
get an error message that reads
=== Start Error Pop-up Window ===
Reporter.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
