Get all connected computers in a network

Hi all
I'm developing an application and need to know how to get all computer names which are connected to a network. I found out that system.director ysrvices name space provides a method to get all domain computers, but in my case i need to query for all possible reachable computers in the netowork. this is similar to search fucntion in windows for all computers
Thanks a lot
Oshadha.

I need to have an app run on several machines in a LAN. They all need to know of each other's existence and be able to communicate simple messages back and forth. These messages should be directed to all or just to an individual. I wrote this app in VB 2003. Basic Windows Forms programs with system tray app, and they each connected to a Service on a machine. The problem was that for some reason the service or the connections don't...

I hope I can explain this correctly. BACKGROUND: My office has a local network. We use a windows server 2003(small business server i think) computer to handle our domain. So all of our employees computers are members of the domain. We can ping them all. NSLOOKUP of the PC name works. NSLOOKUP of the ipaddress works (i had the reverse pointer records created) On the server computer, we can open up the DHCP tool and see all the computers....

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
