The application running my Remoting Server has some information (e.g.. a
string) that needs to make its way to the Remoting Object so that when
the Client calls a method on the Object, it executes properly.
Logically, since the Server is serving the object, it must know when the
object is instantiated by a call of Activator.GetOb ject from the client,
but I don't see how the Server can pas information to the Object.
Can anyone help with some sample code?
thanks!

Could someone clear this up for me a bit. I am a little bit uncertain about this but this is my understanding. Please correct where wrong or bits missing. There are two types of remoting :- Marshal-by-reference Server Activated objects (SAO). Object instanciated on the server. Default constructor. Creation delayed till first method call. Lifetime controlled by server

I’m trying to build a generic Publisher-Subscriber that will work over the net, so I’m using the Remoting. I wish that the subscriber user will be notify about the messages sent by the remote publisher, so I used delegate that the user will be able to set on it his own function for that purpuse. The trouble is that this delegate must not be static because there may be many subscribers, and each subscriber may have different...

I am working on app that currently all resides on the same machine but plan to pull the database off and try to move all the datafunctionality to a remote machine. I have a data function that is processing a loop of rows and calling a stored proc for each row. All is encapsulated within a single oracle transaction. I have a logic class that is making a call to the dataaccess class and passing the rows. I can serialize the dataobject...

We are working on a distributed VB.Net application which will access a SQL database located on a known server. Each client will run on the user's local machine. To implement this, we are trying to use remoting for our access to the SQL server, with the remoting being via IIS. Since all of our users will have accounts in the destination domain, we want to have IIS handle the security for us and not allow anonymous. We have set this up...

I think yes and so I'd written a small example immediately I've met a problem.

Hi All, I've discovered a strange behaviour with Object parameters passed ByVal via remoting and I'm wondering if anybody could shed some light on this. In a non remoting function call, when a object (as opposed to a value type like Integer, Boolean, etc) is passed as a ByVal parameter, it's content can be modified. This is somehow "strange", but I've lived with that so far.

Hi I'm busy developing a .NET remoting application. Tcp remoting with a binary formatter is used. The user can specify on the client configuration whether to connect to the hosted Singleton or SingleCall objects. The application consists out of the following: - Shared assembly This contains serializable classes that are shared between the server and client applications. This also includes interfaces for the server classes. -...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
