Hi again is there any way to prevent the discovering of my web service (esp. by browser)? It would be perfect if only my own- written client could connect to the web service and no one else. As this is most likely not possible, could anyone point me out some steps that lead to that direction (esp. against reverse engineering) Thank Sa

I'm currently using a basic web service for my Windows and web clients to access a Microsoft Access database on the web server. All works fine, but I'm worried about security. Without any precautions, anyone could use the web service to access or even modify information in the database. This, obviously, is not too good, so currently I've set a database password on the MS Access file. The trouble is, since web services are stateless the password...

I am adding a web service to an asp.net solution. Currently, I use forms authentication to login to the solution (no web service yet). How can I use a web service that is protected from everyone but those who have login access? A brief read on google has said that forms authentication is not really appropriate for a web service. Does this mean I must scrap forms authentication if I want to add a web service? I know I can read up on this...

Hi, I have encrypted pdf files which I need to stream through a web service to the browser. So I have a byte() array returned from my web service call which allows me to decrypt back to the pdf before displaying. It works but is slow when the average report is 84K. So basically I need to speed up the streaming. I have tried gzip compression but found out that pdf are already compressed using flate algorithm so no luck there. I tried...

AI am trying to call a third-party web service. this service expects an XML fragment that contains the request plus other parameter. adding the web reference created the syntax below(reference.vb). I changed the data type for the structure that contains the XML data from the default "String" to "xml.xmldocument" to enable easy filling of the data. my client code creates an XML document class, fills the data using standard xml dom...

Hi, all I've got a windows service (server) application and a winforms (client) application. What I need to do is to host a web service in the windows service application so the client can request information about its current state and request server's internal data to change on user's behalf, plus I need to do it in a standard compliant way, such as xml/web services. Any help/link/info would be very apreciated Thanks

Hi, I'm developing a web service that needs to communicate with a custom application on an intranet. There is also a configuration utility which may be run on a different server machine for setting up and altering parameters on the service. This configuration web application may be browsed to via intranet or internet. This is the first work I've done with web services, so sorry for any incorrect terminology or nonsense statements.

I also have a C# form client consuming the web service, all this was working fine until I added the authentication on the server, now I can not get the client to authenticate. Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
