algorithm for determine the similarity between two string

Somebody know an algorithm for determine the similarity between two string

for example:

string 1: "Hello what is your name?, where are you from?"
string 2: "Hello man, where are you from?"

In this case I think that this two string has 75% of similarity.

However, if you know an algorithm that do that I'll appreciate very very
much

I'm looking for a method to compare two strings and grade them for similarity. My idea is to strip out common words and punctuation and create a checksum of each remaining string. I would then compare the checksums and if they are close then there's a potential match (to be judged by user interaction.) Can someone suggest an existing function or class to perform such a task? Thanks!

I have to write an algorithm with must ensure that objects are put in buckets (which are always 4 in size). The objects have two properties: A and B. It is not allowed that in a bucket are objects with the same A or B value. But there can be more than one object with A = null or B = null in the bucket. Sometimes there is only one valid solution, sometimes there are more valid solutions, and sometimes there isn't a complete solution at...

Consider an array A(5) consisting of integers 1 through 5 in random order. 3,1,5,2,4. To make things easier to read, I'll eliminate the commas. My objective is to sort 31524 to 12345 by moving left-to-right through the string 31524 examining 2 characters at a time, reversing them to place the smaller of the two on the left. Initialize Flip=False. Set to True if any change req'd. 31524 becomes 13524 then Flip=True 13524...

Hi everyone, I'm looking around for a VB.NET algorithm that can do non-exact matches, that is, a "looks alike" type logic for word patterns. Does anyone have any suggestions/comments/algorthms they would like to mention? Any comments/suggestions greatly appreciated. Al.

Hi, is there some c++ library that helps me assess the similarity of two strings? In particular, I want to match strings that describe names of institutions. For instance, one string could be a proper substring of the other or one string contains abbreviations whereas the other does not. Typos in one of the strings is another possibility. Thanks in advance,

Hi I have a binary file which contains records sorted by Identifiers which are strings. The Identifiers are stored in ascending order. I would have to write a routine to give the record given the Identifier. The logical way would be to read the record once and put it in an STL container such as vector and then use lower_bound to search for a given identifier. But for some strange reason i'm asked to not use a container but instead...

Hi everyone, Concerning the Needleman-Wunsch algorithm (cf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Needleman-Wunsch_algorithm) I have noticed a possible loop. Inside the algorithm there is an important decision making mechanism. Its a "if, else if, else if" structure like:

I know that Single and Double can only store values that can be stored as x/2^y, such as 0.5 and 0.125. But when they attempt to store values such as 0.1 or 0.2 whose exact value cannot be stored, what algorithm do they use to determine what value to store? Thanks. -- Nathan Sokalski njsokalski@hotmail.com http://www.nathansokalski.com/

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
