How to receive keyboard input for a control derived from ContainerContro l

Hi,

I have a control derived from ContainerContro l, the class does not contain
any other windows forms control,
it's sole purpose it to act like drawing surface for my drawing tool...

If have overwritten the method ProcrssCmdKey to handling key board messages,
to allo object drwaing to be moved ky the left, right keys
The issue is that this works fine when my control is hosted within a Form,
but when it's hosted with a MDI window, it not receiving any key-stroke
messages.

What is the best way, if any, to still receive key-stroke message in this
case fop my control ?

Regards,

Fred

I have developed a series of user defined controls. These have been placed on a variety of different forms. From within one of these controls, I want to show another dialog directly to the right of the current form (that contains one of this particular control). Therefore, what I am after is the position of the form that hosts a control from the control itself. I realise that I can do the following:

I'm working on an application (OEM) using C# that utilizes input from a keyboard, and USB Barcode Scanner. The scanner is a HID Keyboard device, and input from it is sent to the system as if it were a keyboard. I need to be able to identify input from the scanner and keyboard independently. I've looked at DirectX.DirectInput, and using user32.dll to hook into the keyboard messages, but neither method seems to allow for identification of...

I need help with 2 keyboard/input questions 1. How do i caputre all keypress events for my application/form? 2. How do I determine which keyboard sent the keypress? What i'm doing is using a USB Barcode scanner, windows sees the scanner as a keyboard. When the scanner reads a barcode it decodes the barcode and sends in the decoded values in as keypresses from a keyboard. I want to be able to tell the diffrence between a keypress from a...

I posted yesterday about a project I'm involved in to build a login application using a barcode scanner. I've solved most of the problems, but one remains. The client want to disable keyboard input (except at some remote sites where there won't be a scanner). The session "knows" whether that site should be keyboard enabled, but unfortunately the output from the scanner is in the form of keypresses! So any attempt to capture and...

This is probably pretty easy, but how does one determine if a control is a CONTAINER control? I thought something like If Typeof myControl is ContainerControl then .... would work but that seems to always return FALSE. Thanks. Tom

In my Access db (which I have created to help me learn Greek) I am using text box controls on a form. Some of these controls require English input and some require Greek input. Currently I have to keep toggling the keyboard input language bar settings manually from the keyboard whenever I wish to switch languages - this is a real pain. What I would like is for the keyboard language to be changed automatically to the appropriate...

Hello i have made a custom control. i have placed a panel on it. I want this panel to behave just like the normal panel. The problem i was having is that the panel on my custom control doesnt accept other controls. The control i drag drop on it becomes the child of my custom control's parent form and not the child of my custom control. Then i added this line "" before my custom control class (i dont know what this line does). Now

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
