IComponent

I have a class that implements the IComponent interface. It inherits from
something else so I cannot inherit from Component. However, when this
non-visual component is dropped on a Windows form and the app closes it's
destroy() method never gets called. Any ideas what can be causing this?

Hi, I'm trying to bind a custom collection class to a data grid, following the guidelines from the article http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/05/08/CollectionsandDataBinding/default.aspx. The problem is the article is in VisualBasic. I already get the collection to be recognized as a Data Source by the IDE. It populated the DataGrid correctly from the fields on the items object of the collection, but I can't get the DataGrid to...

I'm implementing an IDesignerHost, for the CreateComponent method. The code below is quite standard. When loading a form, the CreateComponent works fine. However, when someone choose a control from the toolbox, the Activator couldn't create the component and returns null in CreateInstance. In what scenario, Activator.CreateInstance will be failed ?? I only create a System.Windows.Forms.Label. I've verified the type passed in is correct. ...

I have the following three classes: MyControl : System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebControl MyChildObject and MyChildCollection : CollectionBase MyControl has a public property, ChildCollection, of type MyChildCollection which holds objects of type MyChildObject. MyChildObject has a public property, URL, which needs to hold a URL string that is preferably, but not

I've authored a custom web component (a non-ui component kinda like a DataSet) and so far it's working. When my web component is added to the web form in the designer from the toolbox, the namespace for my component is automatically added to the using directive of the codebehind. And, the appropriate assembly is added to the "References" for the Web form's project. However, my custom component has a field (initialized to null, and...

Hi, Is there any way to add the @Assembly reference to the aspx files programmatically from inside a custom control (when it gets dropped on to the page from the toolbox)? I have a custom control - MyControl that implements an interface in another custom assembly - InterfaceAssembly. When MyControl gets dropped on to the page and run, it results in a "InterfaceAssembly not found" exception. I am aware that this can be fixed by...

If you just implement the IComponent interface the class is not displayed as being one that can be designed. What makes a Component designable? Are there attriubutes that must be set?

In VS2005, VB 2005, I suddenly can't get at a winform design view. The application still runs OK, but I can't see the designer. I'ver rebuilt the solution with no success. I'm looking for a general strategy for dealing with this problem. Here is the error text: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

following of thread: "Adding namespaces to code behind automatically" Hello, I had quite the same problem and got further in the right direction with your suggestions, thanks. Nevertheless, I have a newer problem which seems to come from the fact that the assembly which contains my "SimpleComponentToolboxItem" must be already referenced

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
