Pushing the .Net Runtime

Maybe it's just my imagination, but I don't really see Microsoft pushing the
..Net runtime out there... you'd think they'd be including it in every
download and new product they ship. How are people going to have Internet
downloadables written using .Net if the user has to also find, download and
install the .Net framework also??

It's part of XP SP1. It is on windows update. It is shipped with W2K3
(32-bit version). They haven't shipped any other new products that I
know of? What do you want?

they could be pushing it a bit more but that might be bad on their lawsuits
with sun over java and on their monopoly suits as well. I was too very upset
at the begining that they werent pushing it but as early as january I did
some stats over the visitors to my work place and over 30% of the winxp
users had .NET alreayd, and that was back in january, I guess a bunch of
people did the autmatic updates or download every update they see. It is
true that the runtime was on the winxp SP1 but as an optional package for
people who ordered the cdrom as far as I know.

Hi all, I just wanted to tell someone :-) I was previously a perl programmer and have been a visual basic frustrated developer for a number of years, only for the reason that corporates are so obsessed with using proprietary marketing focused computer languages and not using true computer science oriented solutions written by computer science engineers and not a marketing panel. The amount of frustration I have experienced using visual...

Hi, Here is my question. I want to push security prices to the desktop from the server. Whenever there is a new price in the database, the server notifies the client. How can this be done in the following situations using MS .NET Winforms on the desktop: 1. Using .NET Web Services on server 2. Using Java Web Services on server

I have a question about pushing realtime stock quotes to clients through the Internet. Is this even possible in .NET environment without creating serious network bottleneck problems? The clients may go in and out of the server zone. I am leaning towards client-initiated posts to a web service (every x milliseconds) -about 500 clients.

I've got a client/server app that I used to send large amounts of data via UDP to the client. We use it in various scenarios, one of which includes rendering a media file on the client as it is transferred via the underlying UDP transport. In this scenario it is very important to keep CPU usage as low as possible. Both the client and server were originally written in C++, but I've re-written the client in C#, partly to simplify it, but...

I am using Visual Studio 2008 w/ VB.NET. For the database, I am using SQL Server 2005, which is running on a dedicated server box. I am creating a WinForms application for a client. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
