I want to set the Default value of a Combobox for any changeable record and have got this working but it is totaly unsatisfactory
see the code below
I loop through the items in the Combo looking for a match between cVal and the selectedValue then stop when I do have a match
the obvious problem is that each iteration fires the selectedIndexChanged but also for a large list this will slow everything down.
There must be a better way
int...

I'm sure this is a fairly basic question, but I've been looking all over the
web for days for suggestions on how to do this.
I've got a datagrid that's bound to a dataset on my form. It includes
several columns, the last of which (with the header Quantity) contains int16
values. When a user selects a row, I would like to have a combobox on the
form display the values from 1 to the number in the Quantity column (e.g.,
the selected row has...

Im populating a combobox from query results like that
below. This works great for populating the box, but I dont
want the selected text, but the ID info associated with
the selection. The query returns Name,ID. I only want to
display the Name in the box, but pull the ID value as the
selected value. I could do this with web forms in .net,
but not with Windows forms controls. Any help would be
great.
EXAMPLE:
Dim dreader As...

Hello - this started out as a minor annoyance - and now is
starting to bother me more and more - I'm hoping someone
can help me.
I would like to have a combobox display - NOT initially be
blank - but contain a value. However the value is just
for user reference - not really one of the combobox
choices. For example intially the combobox should equal
the word Select - and the item values can be
say 'one', 'two', and 'three'.

I use a AddHandler statement in the load event of a form to assoicate a
routine with a combobox. When I populate the form, I select the approiate
value from the combobox by using combobox.selectedvalue = value. The weird
thing is sometimes this causes the assoicated routine to be called and
sometimes it does not. The combobox below it that is completely identical
except for the name works every time. After the form is displayed, you can...

Hi-
I've seen this problem discussed a jillion times but I cannot seem to
implement any advice that makes it work. I am porting a large project from
VB6 to .NET. The issue is using the combo box bound to a table as a lookup,
drawing values from another table to populate the available selections. This
all worked fine in VB6.
I have distilled the problem down to a simple form drawing data from the
Northwind database for a representative...

I'm having an issue with a combobox that is making no sense to me at all.
I have a form with several comboboxes/textboxes.
The values in these boxes are based on a datarowview, which is based on a
listbox.selecteditem.
When a different item is selected in the listbox, all the fields are
repopulated with the correct data.
I have 1 combobox which is acting weird.

I am populating a ComboBox at run time. I insert the first value of
"Choose Value"
cboTaxValue.Item.Insert(0, "Choose Value")
Then I loop through the rest of the values to be added to the combobox.
My problem is that when I try to clear the ComboBox it clears the items
that were inserted into the ComboBox, but does not clear the item I
selected in the ComboBox... For Instance.

Greetings,
I have to load 30,000 unique names into a combox. Filling a dataTable takes
only a few milliseconds. But populating the combobox and displaying the list
takes several seconds - way too long. A user selects a name from the
combobox and runs a query.
Originally, this combox was on a form in an MS Access ADP which was linked
directly to our sql server. The combobox populated withins millisecnods.
How can I achieve this...

This question is going to sound a little crazy but.........How do you set the selected item in a ComboBox?
I am populating a ComboBox with a bunch of instances of a custom private class:
For Each s as Something In MyListOfSomethings
MyComboBox.Items.Add(New XYZListItem(s.ID,s.description))
Next
MyComboBox.ValueMember = "ID"
MyComboBox.DisplayMember = "Description"

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
