Page Template - best practice

I am new to ASP.NET and looking around for the Page Template methods given
in the internet (using user controls).

Please suggest me the one which is easy to maintain.

In ASP.NET 1.1, user controls is your ultimate choice. For ASP.NET 2.0 you
can use master pages.
