Forcing image update

I have a page that allows the user to manipulate various data fields, which
in turn cause the server to modify an image that is displayed on the page.
Right now, the server just overwrites the old image with the new one, but
this new image doesn't actually get displayed until I click the "Refresh"
button in the browser. I assume what's happening is that the image is
getting cached in the brower and thus it is using the cached image instead
of the new image. Is there a simple way to stop this from happening? I
tried adding a "no-cache" meta tag to the page, but that has no effect. I'm
sure there is a really simple way to accomplish what I want, but so far I
can't seem to figure it out.
