WebParts and Performance

We have a high trafficked web application and we are creating a
personalizable home page for all users. I am concerned about the
performance due to the number of database hits. It appears that
everytime a user drags and drops or changes mode, the webpart
framework makes atleast 3 hits to the database:

aspnet_Personal izationAllUsers _GetPageSetting s
aspnet_Personal izationPerUser_ GetPageSettings
aspnet_Personal izationPerUser_ SetPageSettings

In addition to these, we have atleast 10 webparts on a page and each
of these makes a database hit as well. Given the large number of users
this portal supports, performance is a major concern for us.

Anyone has any inputs on how to deal with this issue?

Thanks!

Hello, Sorry for the long post, but I want to try and explain it clearly... I'm using webparts for (possibly) an unusual scenario, and I'm having problems. This could be because I'm doing something they weren't designed for, or it could just be that I don't understand what's going on well enough to get it to work. The situation is that...

I'm working on a project where the user of a site will receive custom content, depending on a set of parameters. The content will all be contained in UserControls (.ascx), that will be used as webparts on a page. We need to add the webparts dynamically to the site, depending on the status of the user: this involves a personalisation of a...

In short, I created...

We would like to have sections on our ASP .NET 2.0 application that can be moved around while the user is using it. There is only a header which can be brought down and made the footer, and there are the left nav and center portiaons that can be interchanged. The changes need to be persisted between sessions. Would webparts be the ideal...

Why don't we see more WebParts being used on the web? SharePoint gets all the fun? And what are the prevailing opinions be they what they may about the use of WebParts rather than WPF when the context would be the development of a service which enables users to select templates that have pre-established zones which function as content...
