I am porting some of my buffer class code for C++ to C#.
This C++ class allocates a block of memory using
m_pBuffer=new BYTE;
But since the class is also used for pointers for funtions that uses raw MMX
and SSE power, the starting pointer MUST be starting at a 16 byte memory
boundary.
In C++ I allocate more memory than needed, and in a second phase I search
for the address that starts on a 16 byte boundary. And I then use that new...

Hi everyone
Could anyone help me understand the usage of the "New" keyword I'm new to
VB.Net.
1. Why do we use the "New" keyword on some object type variables such as the
myPen of the example below and not with the bgColor. Both the Pen and Color
are objects
Dim myPen As Pen = New Pen(Color.AquaMarine)

I'm curious about the differeng behavior of the "new" keyword when dealing
with value versus object types. If I'm correct, when I do:
dim x as integer
There's no need for "new" to be called since this "value" type is all set to
go. Is this because value types are stored on the stack so the memory
initialization is already taken care of?
Now, when dealing with an object type, it seems you do need to use the "new"

Hi,
I have an ASP.Net web service application. The .Net installer (a
deployment project) currently installs the web service in the Default
Website area in IIS on the target server PC. This is ok when an
organization uses separate IP Addresses for each hosted site, but not
ok when the organization expects to host all sites using the same IP
Address and use of host headers.
The only options available to the user when installing are:

I'm just learning C#. I'm writing a program (using Visual C# 2005 on
WinXP) to combine several files into one (HKSplit is a popular
freeware program that does this, but it requires all input and output
to be within one directory, and I want to be able to combine files
from different directories into another directory of my choice).
My program seems to work fine, but I'm wondering about this loop:
for (int i = 0; i < numFiles; i++)

hi, as you are all aware, the asp.net folders like app_data have to be at the
root directory or the server. well, the thing is... i dont have that
directory. one has given me a subdirectory. is there anything i could do to
make that subdirectory act as the root directory? and also, if that isnt
possible, is there a way to make the root of the website a specific url so

I followed a link to James Kanze's web site in another thread and was
surprised to read this comment by a link to a GC:
"I can't imagine writing C++ without it"
How many of you c.l.c++'ers use one, and in what percentage of your
projects is one used? I have never used one in personal or professional
C++ programming. Am I a holdover to days gone by?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
