How do I get PHP to tell the server that when I echo text to the
screen, I need for the text to be sent as UTF-8? How does Apache know
the right encoding when all the text is being generated by PHP? If I
build a content management system (I have) and I make sure that all
input is encoded as UTF-8, how will the
server know that the text in the MySql database is UTF-8?
I'm taking all user input and using this function on the input:

Hi,
i made a test with smtplib module a few days ago, for sending mails,
and i was wondering if there's another module for running an SMTP
server, so i could make a standalone script for sending mails without
using an external SMTP server.
I've been searching but i'm not sure if there are modules for it, or
anything.
Which ones are my options?
Thanks.

A client is panicking about their large Access application, which
has been running smoothly with 100s of thousands of records for
quite some time. They have a big project in the next year that will
lead to a lot of use of the database and the adding of quite a lot
of new data (though I can't conceive of them adding more than than
10s of thousands of records, which won't change the current
performance profile at all).
If there is a SQL...

exception. To get an idea what happens I traced some values using performance
monitor and got the following values (for one day):

Execution: 7
\\FFDS24\ASP.NET Apps v1.1.4322(_LM_W3SVC_1_Root_ATV2004)\Compilations

I've got a custom HttpHandler to process all requests for a given
extension. It gets invoked OK, but if I try to do a Server.Transfer I
get an HttpException. A Response.Redirect works, but I really need to
avoid the extra round-trip to the client.
I've tried Passing the page name, the full URL, and the instance of
the handler class to the Transfer method, but everything gets me the
same error 500.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi:
I have an Access database that's been running (in one form or another)
for a couple of different clients for a few years. Now a new client has
requested that it be implemented with a SQL server back-end. I'm doing
my best to learn about SQL server, and I plan to leave the front-end
more or less as-is, just linking to the SQL server back end, but here's
a basic question:
The db has a front-end linked to two back-ends. One of the...

We've fooled around with Access a bit, but only using the
single-user store-bought version. It seems to be a good
database - versatile and infinitely programmable - and
can apparently be used as a front end to SQL server if
we ever needed to go that route.
But - is there a client/server version of Access ? Looking
on the CDW site there is a bewildering variety of packages
and licences and such, but we can't figure out just which
do...

I always read about how you need to set certain file permissions (for
cgi files, for example), but it's never been clear to me *how* you do
this. I know you can run the line
chmod 755 scriptname.py
but *where* do you run this? Is this done on your personal system, or on
the server? What if you are using Windows? If it's done on the server,
how do you do it?

I built a test job that loads data into the database. I get great
performance with Oracle and I'm trying to tune Sql Server to get the
same type of performance.
Based on system monitoring it looks like an I/O issue. So I started
investigating based on sql server perfromance tuning technical
reference.
Here are my system monitor findings:
The system monitor shows during my job:

Now we have some trouble to directly access to SQL Server database.
I would like to know if there is a special protocol in the communication
between SQL SERVER client and databse system. What is the messaging pattern?
Thank you for any help.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupr who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
