Classic ASP vs .Net - validation

Hi

I did my first web site/app recently using asp. Although I found the
language easy, the end result compared to a typical client/server app
v.messy. My inexperience probably contributed to messy code. I found
the client side scripting for validation etc very tricky and time
consuming.

I see the validation is built in to the ASP.net controls and this
makes me think of taking up .NET. I read it can do server side
validation, how can it validate user imputs once page has been
rendered?

Does .NET generate the client side script for all the different
browsers? So when programming they look like say VB controls but from
the browser end its just normal HTML with javascript validation/event
driven code? without having to install/download special stuff on the
clients like the ActiveX model.

Any example web sites I can see web pages .NET generates? and compare
in IE/Mozilla

Thanks

It emits clients side script, if you have client side validation on. You
should validate on both sides, however, to avoid people hacking you to
change those values.
Does .NET generate the client side script for all the different
browsers? So when programming they look like say VB controls but from
the browser end its just normal HTML with javascript validation/event
driven code? without having to install/download special stuff on the
clients like the ActiveX model.
It uses JavaScript and the validation is basic enough it should work in all
browsers. The exception is the custom validator, which you write the
JavaScript for.

in IE/Mozilla
Try this:

Hi all, i am an ASP developer with 1,5+ years experience. After sneaking around the ASP Classic world for a bit i became a bit dissatisfied of my ASP code practices so i'd like to have some advice from the advanced/pro users... some advice that would help me to grow up! I know that many (if not all) the stuff that was a hassle in ASP 3 has been corrected in ASP.NET/VS.NET (which i'm studying) but ASP 3 will still be around for a long...

I've seen plenty of articles and utilities for preventing form injections for ASP.NET, but not too much for classic ASP. Are there any good input validation scripts that you use to avoid form injection attacks? I'm looking for good routines I can reuse on all of my form processing pages. Thanks.

Hi, We have a major ASP app that we are in the process of upgrading to ASP.NET 1.1 and probably on to ASP.NET 2.0 in the middle of next year. (We will also be upgrading to SQL2K5 at the same time). The current architecture is heavily based on the client side, both for validation and data access. The asp page is returned and then data is modified or selected using XMLHTTP objects embedded on the page, which post or get to a data...

There is an old site that i'm having to maintain in classic asp. For some reason, the original developers didn't belive in validation, so there are many places where if the user puts in invalid data, asp/vbscript throws a big sql server error. In development, on my windows XP box, I can see this error (basically the field is not large enough in sql server for the text they are trying to enter.) However, when this error occurs on the...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
