Hi, I have to customize a component (in this case Windows Media Player) so that a circular window is shown upon the player. That is, suppose you have a movie playing (in the ordinary rectangle window), I'd like to create some sort of mask which only allows to watch inside the circle (as if someone is viewing through a peephole or spyhole..) Is there any possible way to do this? This is targetted to WMP, but maybe it can be done with...

Hi! I have a rather special question here. I'd like to write a wrapper for a .NET assembly, and register that on my server so that the people on my server call my assembly instead of the standard .NET assembly. Reason is that I want to include some additional security checks in my assembly, to prevent everybody from the calling the .NET assembly unchecked. So, writing the wrapper is no problem, but I'm not sure how/if it is possible to...

My previous example used the concept of a Shape class heirarchy, so I will continue with that. Suppose I have something like fifty different shapes, and I am trying to instantiate one of them. The trick is, the instatiation will be based on a string with the exact same name as the type that I am trying to instantiate. Obviously, writing a fifty element long switch statement is an inferior solution. So, how can I instantiate based on...

I am trying to create a way to register static members of a **class**, not an object, for making an object factory. The main thing I want is to be able to make a call like class MyClass { public: MyClass *factory(); }; register(MyClass);

hi, there I build a Class Library, I write a class A to implement interface IA. The problem is when I give the dll file to others, thet can get all information about not only IA, but also A. They can even see my protected members of class A. How could I hide these informations about class A, just give them the interface informations. thanks.

I want to develop plugin support for a system.montitor module I am working on. A lot of the modules will do mostly interop stuff for an older system, but I want to use it myself as well to monitor event logs and other things as I think of them... I've seen two ways of doing this, the abstract class factory, or the interface... the module logic is fairly simple, watch something -> get the result -> notify / fix / and or log it... I've...

Greetings, My company has an ASP.NET based enterprise product that is undergoing some changes and I need some community input to help solve a problem. In the current implementation, any given installation of the product supports only one database at a time. The server/db information is stored in the registry on the computer hosting the com+ based middle tier. We are now moving to a solution which supports multiple databases. That...

Hi, I have a bunch of object derived from the same base class. They all share the same constructor with some parameters. Now, instead of using a large switch() statement where I call every single Object by itself, I'd like to assign a reference to the class type and call it later without knowing the derived type. Example:

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
