I am using the MySQL ODBC 3.51 driver to link three relatively small MySQL tables to a Microsoft Access 2003 database. I am finding that the data from the MySQL tables takes a hell of a long time to load making any kind linkage with my Access data virtually useless. I have the MySQL driver setup in as a USER DSN. The MySQL data is sitting out on a server and the Access database is running locally. The network connection is very...

I have a bit of vb code that uses Tables.Append to programatically link tables from Oracle and DB2 datasources. The problem I am having on some client machines is that the link will take anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes to link the table. When I manually link the tables, through Access, it takes no time at all. Note that only certain client have the problem, and the problem will sometimes go away. These clients will usually get an ODBC Call...

my asp.net website is slow at my work machine but very fast at home. My work uses a firewall. Can that slow down the loading of web forms? are there any "common" things I can try to get it to load faster? It is a database driven (access) ado.net asp.net site, very simple in structure that uses asp.net forms.

Hi, We have multiple copies of an application running on 2003 server hosted on the Internet. Each has it's own SQL database, each has it's own Website and URL. So in processing terms they are all isolated. You'd think they would all run at the same speed if they have the same number of users accessing them, but they don't, here's the problem. One client (6 users) has his own copy of the application and is connecting to the...

Okay, here is what's happening: I have a reasonably fast laptop (1.4 GHz Mobile M, so comparable to 2.5GHz P4) doing .net development. Running Windows XP pro, SP2 IIS is installed and running fine All SQL Servers I am referring to share a small (10 computers or so) LAN with a 100MB Switch. No other computers on the LAN exhibit this problem.

I am trying to make sure that the local connection is up. I have presently been using the NetworkChange.NetworkAvailabilityChanged Event for this. Is there a better way to do this? Also, I want to test to see if the Internet Connection is up. I need the Internet to be up for the Web Services I am calling. Is it better to test the Internet Connection through Pinging an IP Address (I presently do 3 ping failures for it to be down) or...

I am starting to study internet synchronization, and my head is still spinning since internet is not my forte, however my boss is breathing down my neck at the moment. Our company has only one server with fixed IP address provided by our ISP, while the other sites (which I wish in the future hold the replicas databases) have only standard internet connections with Dynamic IP (which means that they change IP addresses, as given by the ISP...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
