Profiling/Instrumenting an ASP.NET webapp

I just installed the VS 2005 "Team Suite" and am able to config and run
"intrumentation " profiles on my webapp.

Question is, can I instrument a very small subset of my webapp, a call into
one page?

I have tried attaching the profiler to aspnet_wp, but then I only get
vanilla asp/.net info. Do I.. hmmm... maybe need to start the webapp in the
vs web debugger, and attach to that process with the profiler at the
appropriate time?

Thanks in advance!

Hello. We recently designed a webapp and because most HQ staff use FF, we designed it based on FF. Now we extend this webapp to allow sub-offices in other cities to use the webapp, they use IE, and the look is terrible, CSS positions are very wrong. I can find all the difference between IE and mozilla and correct every positioning by providing two stylesheets for Mozilla and IE. But this is a lot of work. I wonder if there are existing...

Hi, I'm creating a CMS that I would like to be plug-in based with different plugins handling different kinds of content. What I really want is to be able to load/unload plugins on the fly without restarting the application. What I did was to create an AppDomain that loaded the plugins and everything was great, until I tried to pass something else that strings between the domains...

I was under the impression that creating the app_offline.htm file at the root of the webapp would cause all handles to be closed so that the app could be removed. Unfortunately, this isn't the case. One handle remains open. Debugging shows that it's actually the IIS cache and not ASP.NET that owns this handle. During IIS shutdown, the handle is closed with the following stack trace: ChildEBP RetAddr 0006fbe4 5a403e05...

Hello, I want to apologise in advance for this being off topic. It's not neither A C nor a C++ question, but to profiling in general, though I my chances are best to find the answer in the C/C++ community. I have a C++ program to profile and went about it by producing large history files of calling dependencies with associated times. It is presumably similar to gprof's data format and could be converted.

Hello, I'm trying to track down a memory issue with a C++ application that I'm working on: In a nutshell, the resident memory usage of my program continues to grow as the program runs. It starts off at a nice 4% of memory, then slowly grows up to 50% and beyond. This translates to around 2 gigs of physical memory, and that's really way more memory than this program should be taking up.

I'm especially hoping Ben Voigt and/or Bob Powell see this (I saw their names on the m.p.d.f.performance newsgroup :) ) I would have posted to the performance newsgroup, but I see very little on there that actually seems to relate to the _tools_ per se while this newsgroup is actually somewhat related to the tools, and most of the useful answers come from people known to frequent this newsgroup anyway, so... :) My basic question: I...

Hi, In a webapp I'm writing I need to know if another webapp is running (both of which are asp.net), is there a way that you can check for the presence of another webapp? The problem is that my first webapp sends an invite to users to visit another webapp, this second webapp can be published in any kind of url or domain.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
