Use a role-based authentication. Assign you user to a role (e.g.
"Editors")
Button.Enabled = HttpContext.Cur rent.User.IsInR ole("Editors")

Do i do this in sql server roles or visual studio application configuration?

Maybe I misunderstood the meaning of your question. Do you need to
know if current SQL-user has an access access to a particular SQL-
table?
i'm sorry for the confusion i'm just trying to understand the best practice
in securing my asp.net solution and sql server 2005 database while they work
together to produce a web application.
here is just random questions i have:
you know application role in sql server 2005, does that in anyway work in
conjuction with an asp.net web application?

The DataList is not as powerful as the DataGrid. It requires more work
from you since it has no default data presentation format. However,
the DataGrid begins to get very cumbersome as the number of columns of
data you present increases. Anything more than half a dozen columns or
so and you probably induce horizontal scrolling - a real no-no for me.
If you put such a...

Newbie's question about .NET datagrid
If I use:
<asp:EditCommandColumn></asp:EditCommandColumn>
When I edit a row, it will automatically show Update and Cancel Link.
But when I use:
<asp:Button id="btnEdit" runat="server" Text="Edit" CommandName="Edit"
CssClass="clickable"Width="50px" />
When I edit a row, the Update/Cancel links don't show up.

Currently in an asp:DataGrid I have a column for bringing up an edit form on a
particular row and that is done by a hyperlink as follows:
<asp:TemplateColumn HeaderText="Edit Record">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:HyperLink id="hyperlink1"
NavigateUrl='<%# "EquipmentEdit.aspx?serial=" +
DataBinder.Eval(Container, "DataItem.owner_serial_num") %>'
Text='Edit'
runat="server"/>

Strange problem. I have a number of datagrids in my
application. I have some custom security on my forms and
set my datagrid ReadOnly property to true when the user
does not have enough permission. When they go to a row on
the datagrid and hit the delete button, the row is not
deleted but it puts that datagrid row into edit mode that
causes other issues. (It actually puts the edit symbol on
the row header.) It appears to be a bug...

How do I get an asp.net datagrid to set certain records as
tedittemplate based on a certain condition.
It is for a simple workflow. The user will have permission to see a
list of records. He will be able to select all records he has
permission to approve and that have not already been approved and click
on a button to approve them. These records I want to display in
edittemplate mode with a checkbox. The others I just want to display...

Hi,
I am building a small Help Desk application for my company and need to be
able to edit "open" help desk issues. I use a simple datagrid to display
each issue (6 per page) , with an Edit button. There are a lot of fields
across, and my Network Admins would like a way of editing/updating each
issue seperately in a a vertical form. I need a way of clicking on the edit
button ,bringing up a form with the record, editng the fields, and...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
