ASPNETDB.MDF

I noticed that my asp.net project contains a 10 meg ASPNETDB.MDF database
in the App_data folder. I never intentionally put it there, have never ran
regsql.exe. Reading back on my logs it got there on March 7th the day I was
adding some web references.

How might this have gotten added to the project?

Did you ever run the web site administrative tool? If so, it creates one.

Hi Gary,

Have you used any of the ASP.NET 2.0's services (such as Membership,
RoleManager, Profile ....) in your ASP.NET application? For all these
services, ASP.NET 2.0 by default use a connectionstrin g pointed to a local
"ASPNETDB.m df" (under App_Data folder). here is the default
connectionstrin g in the machine.config file:

============
<connectionStri ngs>
<add name="LocalSqlS erver" connectionStrin g="data
source=.\SQLEXP RESS;Integrated
Security=SSPI;A ttachDBFilename =|DataDirectory |aspnetdb.mdf;U ser
Instance=true" providerName="S ystem.Data.SqlC lient" />
............
============

Also, whenever your ASP.NET application has called any code that use those
services, if the runtime found that the "aspnetdb.m df" is not existed, it
will try creating it. That's is possibly the cause why you find the
"ASPNETDB.m df" file be created without your interactive operation.

Sincerely,

Steven Cheng

I am trying to deploy a web site on a server but I am having problems with the ASPNETDB database. It works fine in development on my PC but as SQL Server 2005 Express Edition only supports local databases I need to migrate ASPNETDB to one of our SQL Servers running SQL Server 2000. I have used aspnet_regsql.exe to create the database and added these lines to the web config file in the connectionstrings section.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
