Greetings,
I was wondering if anyone here has implemented a document database, where
documents can be searched or added.
Did you place your documents as regular Web pages on your site, place them
in a database, or some sort of combination of the two?
Thanks!

Jonathan,
I has not (yet), but I did think about it. A lot depends on what sort of
searching you would like to have. In our days anything less than search on
any words in the document content will appear outdated. Therefore I looked
first in searching solutions. Someone recommended Lucene.NET - http://www.dotlucene.net/. It's an open source project. I did not try it
myself.

Thanks for the refence. Unfortunately, I'm pretty new to ASP.NET so I'm not
really sure which way to go at this point.

my question is such: should i turn a 80 pages doc file into a database so
that:
- i can make it searchable through an online form
- it can be modified and every modification archives the previous version,
inside an "archive" table.

A sane document management approach:
I manage my documents with a key, composed with some fields of my XML
documents.
When I have to refer to documents, I use a canonical form of the key so
that I can use classical links such as <a href="...">
This canonical form is naturally an URN
The problem when using URN, is that the sub-scheme must be registered,
otherwise collisions may happen if somebody else decide to use the same
name,...

My customer wants to scan their documents and organize them electronically
and he has asked me to find him a viable solution. These are the criteria.
- It must integrate with an existing MS SQL database and the .NET interface
- Scanned images should be easily catalogued. I see the process as follows
* a document comes in
* key in appropriate information about the document by creating a record
in the database
* document scanned
* the...

I was given the task of designing a complete web based
document prep system. In simplest terms (using a msword
explanation) create a database of merge fields, and a
library of templates. Allow the webuser to select the
template, merge his DB record, and produce a formatted
document that can be printed or downloaded.
We need to do this without specialized software on the
client, since it will be universally available to
webusers. We...

I use hyperlinks in a subform datasheet to display locally saved documents
that are associated with individual database entries. A customer entry may
have a list of invoices in pdf format, for example:
invoice23.pdf
invoice24.pdf
The document name appears as a hyperlink in the datasheet. The document is
opened (by the associated application) when the hyperlink is clicked. The
problem is the database and all the documents are stored...

I have set up a mail merge document in Word 2003 which gets its data from my
Access 2000 database. I want to set up a button on a form that:
1. runs the query to provide the dat for the merge document in Word;
2. opens the document and runs the merge process for the new data.
I have managed to write the code to perform step 1 ok, but I'm having
trouble with step 2. It opens the word document fine but does not perform
the mail merge of...

Ok.. here's my situation. I have a program that handles a database full of
people. Users of the program have the ability to send out notifications to
these people. Pretty standard notifications, the program tracks when
notifications are sent out and who sends them. Currently these
notifications are all sent via email.
Now the program users also want the ability to send these notifications via
standard snail mail. (I'll make a popup...

I am looking for others who have built systems to scan documents, index
them and then make them accessible from an Access database. My
environment is a nonprofit with about 20-25 case workers who use
laptops. They have Access databases on their laptops and the data is
replicated.
The idea is that each case worker would scan their own documents,
either remotely or back at the office.
And NO I am not planning to store the scanned...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
