vs2005 and symantec antivirus

rb

Developing web site like I've been doing it so many times before and
all of the sudden - literaly - symantec jumps in start complaing about
viruses found in temporary dll's created in temp .NET precompiled
folder. Can't compile project any more as symantec keep complaining
and sending dll's to its quarantine. Mostly if not only
resource/language dll's are affected.

Obviously, as I disable symantec real-time protection, everything goes
back to normal. Both vs2005 and symantec have been installed on my
machine forever.

Has anyone even heard of anything like this?

Thanks.

"suddenly" could happen because some new virus-signature matches those
dll's.
Can you exclude this temporary directory (or it's root) from the
scanner, so that those files are left alone? Might even speed thing up
a bit.

Yea, I disabled the scanner, rebuilt the project and all problems just
as suddenly went away. Works even after I re-enabled the AV. Go
figure.
FYI, the "virus" in question was PWSteal.4564. I stand in shock & awe
:)

Thanks everyone.

Ok, I've wasted two days trying to figure this out. I'm stuck using Symantec C++ 7.5 on this one project. I'd port it over to something more recent, but time is pressing... I need to move some functions out to another file, compile them separately, then link the whole shebang back together. Good old C++ name mangling is getting in the way.

April 14, 2006 Hi all I had posted this msg earlier also. If I send an email through my application (VB.NET 2005) it goes immediately. However if I turn 'Internet Auto Protect' feature ON in Norton Antivirus, the email goes only when I close the entire VB application.

Hi I recently installed VS2005 standard edition on my pc which is Athlon 1.4Ghz processor with 512 Mb of RAM with XP Pro sp2 and although the performance of VS2003 was acceptable VS2005 takes an age to load and the IDE is so sluggish to be almost unuseable. I was considering upgrading the machine anyway and noticed that there are good deals at the moment on 3 GHz Pentium 4 with 1Gb of ram and wondered if any one had experience of the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
