login control and membership questions

I've been thinking about adding to my asp.net 2.0 web project (ecommerce) the
use of the membership and login control capability. I've read a lot but still
don't quite understand the practical use. I've read, since I use Sql Server
2005, that it's better to keep the membership data in local app_data, though
you can add it to your existing db. The issue I have is how do I manage the
common tasks of a user's area; to display order history, etc. This is all by
user info (that is logged in). I see the login control use for security but
still am unsure about once you're in the user restricted area combining data
for views? How is the user data stored in the membership table(s)???? I would
need to relate the user info to order history, etc. And since I'm doing an
'open to the public' ecom app, the user can glide allow the order process
without login until the every end.
Should I just manually code this as I have always done? ideas? Thanx.

Hello, I am working on a test site to explore the new login controls and membership features of ASP.NET v2.0. I have tested the controls using SQL Express and have now decided to try using a central SQL Server 2000 database. When I use the all of the included controls with SQL Express everything works great but when I use it against SQL Server 2000 I can't get past the login page. When in Visual Studio IDE and open the web admin page I...

Hi. I'm tring to implement AD login with .net beta2 here. I am using asp:Login control, but the Login always fails. I tried to validate manually using Membership.ValidateUser("domain\user", "pass") or ("user", "pass"), but it always returns "False". The credentials are right, and it seems to connect to AD because it doesn't give me any error when trying to validate, but i can't be sure.

I am starting a rewrite of an existing Classic ASP web site in ASP.NET 2.0. The existing ASP application has several types of users, each with a separate login process (separate login page, separate DB tables, etc). For one of these user types, the current application has an additional input field required for login… they have a username, password, and another “location code” field. Please don’t make me explain or justify this…...

Hi everybody there, I have a special Login page that wants users to enter 3 passwords rather than a single password. But can't do it with Login control. I tried following scenarios: 1. Put an Login in the page and set its Visible = False instead put my own username and 3 password on the form. Then I checked 2nd and 3rd password seperately and passed username and password to Login control via its Username and Password properties but...

I'm trying to use the login control and have it use the membership provider framework to authenticate users and am having a problem (which i'm sure will turn out to be a stupid mistake on my part)... this is what I have done thus far: Created a database on a sql 2000 server and then used the aspnet_regsql tool to create the membership tables I then modified the web.config as such:

I am using 'System.Web.Security.Membership' & 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.Login' control to implement Forms based authentication. Can I call Membership.ValidateUser() from Login.OnAuthenticate()? I want to do this because I want to control cookie creation. I have not been able to find a sample code where Membership.ValidateUser() is called and 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.Login' control is also being used at the

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
