Is it possible, using static properties, to have a shared object in the GAC
that can be accessed by differnet processes? If so, how? If not, how can I
have a shared .NET object that can used by different processes?

If you're sharing a resource across more than one process then you need
to make sure that it's only used by one at a time. Take a look at the
synchronisation mechanism provided by the System.Threadin g.Mutex class: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...ing.mutex.aspx

These are DIFFERENT processes. I'm going to have several sites that must
share some data...and be able to know when that data is dirty. I don't want
to use a DB for this, but memory.

In VB6 if I wanted to make a shared application so to speak I would
create an ActiveX EXE. This would allow me to expose objects of the
application but only have 1 instance loaded. What is the equivilent in
VB.NET? Would I create a normal assembly that can be communicated with
using remoting? or are there other ways?

dangling pointers may(will) damage the data in this memory segment if
it is open to all, i.e. shared memory mapped into all processes memory
area.
