Confusion over Profiles, ProfileCommon

dgk
I've been trying to figure out how to set up a number of users and
profiles for them. Having scanned many messages in this group, I came
across one where Brock mentions using ProfileCommon. That actually
does seem to work, and I can access and change values for the fields
created in Web.Config. I'm using the default provider.

Is this the accepted way of handling profiles for users other than the
logged in user?

I am trying to Synchronize anonymous users with authenticated uses using Profile_MigrateAnonymous. However Profile_MigrateAnonymous only carries information in one direction, for instance, if I delete one item from the basket in a shopping cart when the user is still anonymous, the item comes back right after I log out. I would like to know if is there any way to synchronize both directions so that the user sees the information in the...

Hi all, I tried this question in the WinForms forum, but perhaps I'll have better luck here. We have an ASP.NET 2.0 web app which uses Profiles, and want to write a little WinForms app to administer sections of the site. In a little prototype, I was able to utilize Profile in the WinForms app! I added this to my app.config:

I have started creating an application where I make use of User Profiles, to allow users to enter information about themselves. I now find that I wish I could create an "Administrator" account that will allow the administrator to change or edit profile data that a user has placed in their profile. Is it possible in ASP.NET 2.0 to do that? The application is already using an ASP.NET membership database. Thanks in advance...Ed

Is there a way to connect to a ProfileProvider programmatically? I have a Central Administration site that handles multiple application with different Membership databases. I have tried googling and have found nothing that refers to having to connect to a provider. Everybody seems to provide a default only example. Any help is appreciated. I would like to do something like this: Dim prof As ProfileCommon =...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
