role question

hey all,
if my app is using active directory for authentication how do i assign roles
to each user? do i need a database table to contain that information?

for instance, take a user does she have access to this program/field or not?

thanks,
rodchar

rodchar i think you are missing out somethings here.
If u are using AD what does databse table got to do with it?
You should have roles or groups in your AD and you just need to disable
anonymous access in IIS
and enable integrated security and there you go.
Check my blog at:-http://naijacoder.spac es.live.com/
i have something related there
Hope it helps
Patrick

I have a SQL database with an Access front end. In the database I have a read only and a read write role. When a read only user opens the database I want all the fields on the form to be locked so that the user will not try to change data and get an error from the server. Right now I am doing that with a table. But it's a hassle to have to maintain a table when if I could answer the question is the currently logged in user in the read...

I am working on my first .NET development project that involves custom role-based security per the project requirements. This lead to a general design issue this week that really caused us some concern. I have described the situation below because we are very curious to see what other, more experienced, developers might suggest. The specific classes and fields are used just to illustrate the concepts. Our application uses role-based...

I have implemented role-based security within my ASP.Net application. However, it seems the role is not passed to the authentication ticket I create. I want to use it to display/hide some content based on the user's role. I wrote this to do it: if (HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated) { plLoggedIn.Visible = true;

Questions about Role Based Security in ASP.Net: I have a few questions about role based security in an ASP.Net application. Below are some points about our system: - We have a hierarchical roles system stored in a database. - We are also using Windows for authentication. - Page - Role relationships are also held in a database. - We have created a shared assembly for ease of use in applications.

I am having a bit of a problem doing something that I was expecting to be very straight forward. I am trying to declare a Role that needs to be available before a specific class can be instantiated. My class code is set up like this: Imports System.Security Imports System.Security.Permissions Imports System.Security.Principal <PrincipalPermission(SecurityAction.Demand, Role:="RUS\GEM_Admin")> _

Hey everyone I'm having a great deal of problems finding this information through google and yahoo, so I turn to you on this. I have a Windows app running on XP. I am able to caputre the user's Name property in the WindowsPrincipal's IIdentity interface. Where can I find the role that the user is assigned for the current login? I only want the one role which is assigned for the current user, not all of

Role-based security for an ASP/ASP.NET mixed environment Hello: My co-worker and I have been charged with designing role-based security for our intranet. The technologies we have to work with are ASP and ASP.NET. This security design must support *both* technologies. Currently, we have a successful collection of both ASP and ASP.NET applications with an identical look and feel; you'd only know they are different by virtue of an ASP...

Morning, I am using the built in asp.net role/user/membership, etc. Have that all working. We have some internal users, and a bunch of external users. Is there any way to remove roles at run time, per request, based on the ip of the request? What I want to do is remove all the "admin" type roles for internet based users, only allow certain roles to apply if the request comes

I have a user object that is set when a user logs in. There are also permissions that I get about the user from a web service. Currently I take the results from those web services and store them as XML in the user object so I can parse it when I need to look at them. I wanted to turn the xml permissions into ROle objects, but does that mean that my User class needs to make reference to the Role class? User class example class User{

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
