Master Page Lifecycle (note)

I might add the following fly to the ointment:

* content page opens a fully validated aspx page (no content page here)
* everytime a posback is made on the aspx page the onunload event fires(the
content page is redrawn) if the call is found in the body tag.
* 'return false' attribute does resolve this but now to actually update the
content page.

Hi, Is there documentation that talks about the page lifecycle, the lifecycle of controls on the page, and the rendering of inline code, in a single document? Thanks, John

So I have been working on an opensource project for a while, and decided to really try to make it look better after focusing on the functionality most of this time. Up to now, I have simply used a standard ASPX page with minor modifications to it. All of my pages inherit from a "BasePage.cs" class, that handles common things like getting the user's information out of the session, determines if a page should or should not be password...

Hi; I have my <form> in the master page because the master page includes the menu for all pages. But I would like to set the default button and control to place the caret in for each page. Is there a way to do this? (My understanding is this has to be done in the form tag.) -- thanks - dave david_at_windward_dot_net

Is there a way to prevent the master page to reload every time the user makes a selection off of the menu? I want to give it a "Frame" like appearance were only the content section changes with a menu selection.

Hello, I am starting to use Master pages. I understand the concept that these pages should remain passive. So, I need a little assistance. Scenario: 1. Master page with a search box & submit button 2. several pages that use this master page 3. based on the value placed in the search box, I want to refresh the data

I have an app using Ajax. The scriptmanager is within the form that is within the master page. I also have web user controls that are doing partial rendering and are "borrowing" or "inheriting" the scriptmanager from the master page. Heck, when they're rendered, the scriptmanager is on all the pages and it works. However, in the VS2005 designer, I constantly see "Can't render image" errors, and it's nearly impossible to effectively use...

I am trying to develop an intranet site and thought I would use Master Pages and themes. I found the the MS templates at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/asp.net/aa336613.aspx and was trying to set everything up. I created a Master page with three containers: header, content, footer. I created another page and put a few things in the content container. I set the theme option in the web.config. It appears to be applying the theme to the...

I've been having a recurring issue with master page authentication. Right now, I have verification code in the Page_Init event of the master page, which checks the Page.User object to make sure the Membership object is still alive. If not, it redirects to the login page. If so, it lets the user see whatever page they were after. My issue is that it seems sometimes this event doesn't fire when it's supposed to, and I'll get "object refrence...

Coming from a Dreamweaver/ASP/PHP background. Planning to use Visual Studio 2008 for a website. Complete newbie question here (please be gentle!): Do master pages work similar to Dreamweaver templates in that when the master page is updated, all the child pages created from the master page are updated and then they all need to be uploaded to the server? Or do you only have to upload the master page after an update?

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
