Session Timeout question.

I am a little confused on how Session Timeout is handled. Does the session
timeout counter get reset on each postback or is it always counting down
until it expires regardless of postbacks?

Session Timeout is a "Sliding" expiration. For example if you have a session
set for 30 minutes, and 29 minutes have passed and you request a page, you
get reset to 30 more minutes.

Note however that the session will only be extended when the request is
for active content. As far as I remember testing, if you request a Zip
file, a GIF, a HTML page, etc... then the session is not extended.
However, it will be extended on web service (ASMX) calls.

First: There are several ways to confuse one regarding session timeout. (1) web.config - <sessionState timeout="20"> (2) IIS Manager | Internet Information Services | ServerNode | Default Web Site | Properties | Configuration | Options | Enable Session State Session timeout 20 (3) within Global.asax.vb file - Session_Start subroutine can use Session.Timeout=x minutes or (4) within any web page, i.e., <web page>.aspx can use...

hi, I have a web app with forms authentication and a timeout session of 20 mins for security reasons. I recently added a feature that allows users (if they want to) to automatically log in (without entering username and password) using the cookies. Now in this case the 20 mins session timeout has no meaning anymore so I m thinking to make the timeout infinite in this case only. my question is, if i do this, and then a user used the...

Do we have any access to the Session object from a different Session? The idea is to save Session of a current user and then if he logs in again then return the Session back. It's not a problem to store, there is only one complicated object in this Session, but to get it on SessionStart to make a copy this is a problem. Maybe using Application or whatever? Or this data is divided and inaccessible anyway? Just D.

In the web.config file for my application, in the <sessionState> section I have set timeout="120" (in minutes), but session state variables in my application seem to be expiring in about 5 minutes. Any idea what could cause this? I have the mode="InProc" attribute set for <sessionState>. I know that some people have solved the problem of session variables timing out too quickly by changing that attribute, but I cannot use...

I have been using the default session state (InProc) and have found that I have been loosing my information after a period of time (normally 20 minutes). Is there anyway to find out how much more time I have on a session? If I do a refresh, does reset the session clock? Do you have have to go to another page to reset the session timeout or will a postback also do it? This is important as we have a few pages that a user

I have a page where the user can upload a video file. As you can guess, this may take a while. Is there a way I can change the session timeout for just this one page? I would also want to change the forms authentication to be a large value for that page also. TIA - Jeff.

By default, IIS is configured to timeout a session in 20 minutes, which can be changed through the IIS config window. I use InProc sessionState mode. I can also set the session timeout in web.config. So here is my question: If IIS setting has a session timeout value of 20 minutes, but my web.config setting has a session timeout of 30 minutes, will the session time out in 20 minutes or in 30 minutes?

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
