asp.net 2.0 - profile and session performance

YC
Hi.
I have a question regarding the profile and sessiom performance when using
SQL server a a provider. The mecahnizm in general uses blob as the datatype
for the state persistente. In high volumes, will it cause a peformence
problem?

Profile data is only loaded on demand, so that should not pose a problem.

However, Session with SqlServer is definitely slower than in-proc session
(the default). You'll have to do your own testing to determine if the
performance is suitable for your particular needs.
If you are storing objects that need to be serialized such as classes,
DataSets, etc, that can be the slowest, whereas simple types (int, string,
etc) are faster.

I am trying to replace cookies with the new "Asp.net 2.0 profiles" in my shopping cart application, but I am having trouble to access profile properties using HttpContext.Current.Profile. I can access any other property property of this class from a regular aspx page, but not from inside the class itself. This is the piece of the code that I am trying to get to work which can also be located at the bottom of the page, but so far just...

Hi I am working on application that need to hold custom user information - Last and first name, email, some other domain related information. I used to create Base class for all my pages. The base class would have CurrentUser property that would hold customer class in session and that was fine for all my situations. Now ASP.NET 2.0 came and we have Profile property for pages that could be extended with configuration to have custom...

I realize that ASP.NET profile provider is used to create a strongly typed storage of data that can be used like Session variables but can survive beyond sessions. In my ASP.NET 2.0 application, I am thinking of using the ASP.NET profile provider and its the binary storage capability to store a lot of my user's custom variables versus rolling my own object storage and access in a database. Are there any limits or warnings I should be...

Hi, It seems as though Profiles have replaced session variables in visual studio 2005. The Profile needs to be defined in the web.config : <anonymousIdentification enabled="true" /> <profile enabled="true"> <properties> <add name="EmpNum" defaultValue="??" allowAnonymous="true" /> </properties> </profile>

I have successfully, implemented a custom Membership Provider to a SQL 2000 table, however, I am having problems doing the same with a Profile Provider. As I understand it, the steps for both of these are similar: Create a new class (MyMembershipProvider and MyProfileProvider). Add the "Inherits..." value to the provider (MembershipProvider and ProfileProvider). Modify the web.config file to assign this class and it's connection...

When profile data is stored in ASP .NET, where is the user data persisted? For how long is it persisted: is it session persisted or permanent (like a cookie)?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
