I've been using functions since I first started using php, but I've been
hearing more and more about classes, which I never really looked at that
much. I understand the whole OO programming aspect, but are there any
advantages to having classes as opposed to just functions? I've heard that
the classes are better because they only load the functions they need to,
where with an include file of functions, the whole page gets loaded, even
if...

I'm not getting any feedback on the most important benefit in my
proposed "Ideas for Python 3" thread - the unification of methods and
functions. Perhaps it was buried among too many other less important
changes, so in this thread I would like to focus on that issue alone.
I have edited the Proposed Syntax example below to take out the
changes unecessary to this discussion. I left in the change of
"instance variable" syntax (...

Hi,
Here's a question for you all. Under "classic" ASP any ASP page could
have any number of #Include files. Using #Include files I could have
functions which were common to my whole site and these files had
access to the Request, Session and Server objects from the page they
were included on.
How can this be done under .NET? My understanding is that these
functions that were once in #Include files should really be part of

I am writing an application that dynamically loads user controls at run time
based on user options. I would like to give my users the ability to build
their own user controls and add them to my user control folder so that they
can be selected and loaded at run time also. These new controls will need to
have access to many of the classes with there properties and methods within
the complied code. Is this possible? This seems to be the...

I would like to access variables and functions that I declare in the
Global.asax.vb file. However, I am having trouble doing that. What does the
declaration have to look like in the Global.asax.vb file, and what would I
do to access it? (I am using VB.NET for my code) Thanks.

I am trying to save a file dynamically created in a webpage. I get the
following headers, but cannot figure out how to save the attachment. I am
basically trying to replicate what internet explorer would do in this case.
The headers I am getting are:
Headers {Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="dynamic_file.mdb"
Connection: close
Cache-Control: private
Content-Type: application/octet-stream

Hello out there,
I´m making my first steps with ASP.NET 2.0 and have he following
problem:
I´ve implemented a Web User Control that sits in the root of my
ASP.NET Website. I want to use the Type of the control in a class
that´s under the App_code folder. As with ASP.NET 1.x, I tried to
reference the Control via the using keyword - but that didn´ t work,
because the Web User Control has no namespace (VS.NET didn´t add one).

Hi,
I have a couple of questions. If you don't mind. Sorry, I do get a bit
wordy at times. First one just throws some thoughts around hoping for
answers :-)
1) Anyone got a theory on the usage of PHP Classes rather than an actual
technical guide? I've seen loads of things that show how to put together
a class, but without actually necessarily saying why you'd want to use a
class over say a separate file of functions or explaining:

Say I have a base class B and four derived classes d1, d2, d3, d4. I
have three functions fx, fy, fz such that:
fx should only be called by d1, d2
fy should only be called by d2, d3
fz should only be called by d1, d3, d4
I think I have two options.
(1) Make all functions virtual and define them in the required derived
classes. This will of course lead to a lot of code duplication and
problems in maintainability.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
