I'm trying to isolate "applications" into their own application domain within
a single process. I've quoted applications because it's a logical
representation of an application. Basically it consists of a bunch of
components supplied by some application group. I got this to work, somewhat.
The problem is that the application performs roughly (and this has not been
measured, but a guess based on the rendering of the application GUI) 10x...

I've noticed that no matter which language I choose and no matter how small the
application, it still takes about 3-5 seconds to start up compared to vb's 1-3
seconds startup on an average SMALL application. Is this because of the
precaching factors in the .NET framework or is my machine so slow (1.6 GHz, yeah
right) that it can't load it all fast enough. Also, understanding the .NET IDE
and how much is involved, is there any way to speed...

Hello everybody,
I need to abort execution during start up, while the constructor called by
Application.Run is executing.
If the database fails to connect during my application's startup I want to
display a message (no problem here) and then abort the program. However,
after the attached code executes I end up with my main form and a wait
cursor! If I click on the X the form closes. Boss doesn't think an
unhandled exception will...

How can I limit the use of the PC's virtual memory? I'm running a process
that basically takes a txt file and loads it to a datatable. The problem is
that the file is over 400,000 lines long (77 MB) and after a while I get the
Windows message saying that the virtual memory's getting really low. Plus
the machine gets really sluggish (with multi-threading). Is it possible to
use the virtual memory until it reaches a certain limit and then use...

Okay, here is what's happening:
I have a reasonably fast laptop (1.4 GHz Mobile M, so comparable to 2.5GHz
P4) doing .net development.
Running Windows XP pro, SP2
IIS is installed and running fine
All SQL Servers I am referring to share a small (10 computers or so) LAN
with a 100MB Switch.
No other computers on the LAN exhibit this problem.

I have an ASP .NET application which loads pretty fast in our intranet. When
we try to run the same application from outside our office, it takes a lot
of time to load the ASP pages. We have a 100 Mbps line and the application
is behind a firewall in the office.
Is there any reason why accessing the application from outside is slow?

I've noticed that if I enable the "Application Framework" in the project for
a Windows app, there's a bug when the programs load and I didn't even notice
it until lately.
If you click the "Show Desktop" icon on the task bar in Windows XP just
prior to running the application, the application loads, shows the splash
screen and then minimizes itself leaving the task bar item flashing orange.
If you use the "Show Desktop" to minimize all...

Hi All.
I realize that when my Deployed winforms application starts, Windows needs
to load the .net 2 framework before control is given to my application....
Is there anyway to either ...
- preload the .net 2 framework (windows startup or whatever)

We are setting up our new environment with our hosting providers.
We have a Quad Core Windows 2003 Server with 12 GB RAM
We have a Load balancer with 2 web servers and a database server. The
website and the code are stored on a SAN.
The problem we are facing is that the app pool takes very long to load >
20sec
We have another dual core windows 2003 server where it loads in 5 secs. This
is
a 64bit database server at our current hosting...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
