VS Debugger SLOW when .NET 1.1 installed side-by-side with .NET 2.0

Debugging my 1.1 framework ASP.NET web application (which talks to a
..NET Web Service on the same machine) has become extremely slow since
installing VS 2005 and / or SQL Server 2005. It takes between 2mins to
4 mins to step into the first web page!

Watching the output window, the first 15 to 20 assemblies load fast,
but then performance gradually decreases to the point where a single
line (indicating a loaded assembly in the Temporary ASP.NET files
directory) can take between 2 and 5 seconds.

I have read an article about having the CTP / Beta 2 version of VS.NET
2005 installed previously and an issue with uninstallation. I thought
this was my problem, but I have since re-installed my machine from
scratch.

I installed VS.NET 2003 Enterprise Architect on a clean machine, and
the debugger loads almost instantly. I then installed SQL Server 2005
(RTM), and instantly got the problem.

I then uninstalled SQL Server 2005 and VS.NET 2005 (Ent Architect) and
all related components ( and noticed that the
Microsoft.NET\F ramework\v2.0.x xx folder was still there - so I removed
it ).

I re-ran my project in VS.NET 2003 and the debugger was fast again!!!

Things I have checked / tried:
1. Clean machine (no anti virus installed)
2. Running aspnet_regiis.e xe -i after installing the 2.0 framework
3. Re-installing IIS
4. Clearing the Temporary ASP.NET Files folder.

Just to check, I tried installing VS.NET 2005 again - the problem
returned immediately!

Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm running this on a 2.8 GHz machine with 1.5 GB RAM. (XP machine) The full suite of VS.NET is installed. I'm running 7.1.3088 Professional Edition. Initial launch from within IDE took only seconds, but my system froze almost immediately, and required reboot. Now, launching from within the IDE is very slow -- 5 minutes -- with CPU usage maxed out the entire time. And once application is running, the system goes weird -- task bar...

Hi everyone, Ok, here's the deal. I have a laptop installed with VS 2005. I'm programming in C#. When I am at home, connected to my LinkSys router, it saves fine. However, whenever I am anywhere else, it saves very slowly (takes about 1 minute), on the same file(s). Any ideas? Thanks! Chad

When I debug a standard socket server app that has a tcplistener using VS.NET 2005, the debugger deadlocks (uses 100% of one of my CPUs) when the code runs the tcplistener.Start(). method. I am having the same problem in a sample socket server app that uses socket.Bind(). Both deadlock at this point. Both of them worked normally a week ago on a fresh system (windows xp pro sp2. I have already completely reinstalled my OS to get rid of...

I've been experiencing a problem recently where the debugger hangs for up to ten seconds, even when executing very simple operations (i.e. adding two numbers). During the hang, a little popup appears in the toolbar saying that "Visual Studio is busy waiting for an operation to complete" and the IDE is completely frozen. The hang occurs when one or more background threads are: 1) performing file-read operations via StreamReader, AND......

My computer is very slow when some Windows applications are running. I defragmented and fixed bad sectors of the C: drive, I deleted open and running applications through regedit, I removed all the unnecessary programs, cookies, temp files, scanned and fix antivirus. It is slow only with Windows applications, especially with Microsoft Word and Excel. Other applications and Internet browsers run with a reasonable speed. Do you know anything...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
