First Name Search

I'm working on an app where I need to do a search for like and similar first
name matches. For example a search for John would bring back Jon, John,
Jonathan, etc.

Working with asp.net and sql server. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kent

Without going into a lot of detail, you definitely will want to check
out the System.Text.Reg ularExpressions .Regex class. Also of interest
will be creating full-text indexes on SQL Server, and using some of the
special TSQL string-searching functions that get enabled on those (such
as CONTAINS).

Hi I'm trying to learn python by doing something that I think it would be nice; Search lyrics using some websites like www.musicsonglyrics.com, http://www.sing365.com I am trying to parse the html code and get the information that i need. Since I am not very good with programing I am stuck on this part. Let's take the www.musicsonglyrics.com website as an example. So let's say Metallica lyrics would be on www.musicsonglyrics.com/M.htm....

In summary, I don't know how/why the following code works and would like to know. I'm trying to match the first 3 characters of a variable (filename). The code below crudely works, but only if I move "Activities" below "Fine Arts", implying the code is not matching exactly the first 3 characters. I've left the code in my testing state for the following questions: 1. How do I specifiy the match to include all 3 characters (not just a...

Hi all, I'm trying to make a form that lets the user enter a name into a text box, and have the first record that matches that name be selected in a datasheet subform. For example, say the user enters in "Miller". After clicking the search button (or pressing enter, either is acceptable), the subform jumps to the first Miller record. The user can still scroll up to see all the records above it, and scroll down to see all the records...

I have always been under the impression that LDAP was optimized for speed. Fast queries, fast access, slower writes. I have a block of data in LDAP and in SQL. Exact same data. The query is fast but the first access to the result set takes longer that to do the query in SQL and process the sql results. From my trace.axd LDAP Test Starting Search 0.000112 0.000043 LDAP Test Done Search 0.003821 0.003374 <--- fast query at .003 sec LDAP...

Hi I want to have a textbox on my webpage that shows 'Type here' in gray. When you click on the textbox, that text disappears and you can type your search, rather than having to select it and press delete. Be super-cool if it could also change the textcolor as well. Any ideas on how to do this? I dont mind using another control, as long as its free (its for a charity intranet).

I have a popup form that has Start and Stop buttons to initiate a search for email messages. If the user's Inbox has thousands of messages, the Stop button will gracefully end the search without making the user wait for the search to complete. The form has an option to "start searching when form opens", so the user can take the default search parameters and start the search without having to click the Start button. The problem is the...

Hello, On my site, a user enters a value into a form, and if that value is not in my database, the code below is meant to give the user the message "The topic "value" has not been added. Add the topic "value"." When I pull up my site in Firefox and enter in a non-existent value for the first time, the message says "The topic "" has not been added. Add the topic ""." Then if I enter in a second non-existent value, it works correctly. ...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
