I think I've found a bug in the timer control.
I've got a class which uses a timer control.
It imports it from System.Windows.Forms
This timer ticks once a second, and then updates a
label which represents a clock on a form, to which the original class
has a reference. (MVC style)
If the user clicks and holds the X button on the form

Hi,
I am writing a timer class that I want to be able to get to notify me
(via a callback func), when a specified interval has elapsed. I have
most of the timer functionality figured - however, I need to spawn a new
thread to carry out the "time watch" - and I need to do this in a cross
platform (Well Linux/Windows) way ...
Any help will be much appreciated. The code (snippet) follows below:

I'd like to be able to destroy a Timer in it's own event handler. That is,
within it's tick handler I'd like to delete the Timer itself (e.g., for
one-shot timers). Is this possible?
In general, can a class instance destroy itself via one of it's own methods?

Hi,
I've seen several articles about using System Timers in ASP.NET solutions,
specifically setting them up in Global.asax' Application_OnStart event.
I'm thinking about the scenario where I might need to carry out some
back-end processing without pausing the individual users' Session while that
process runs.
E.g. I might provide the ability for a user to upload a text file of job

Hi all,
I just want to know how to use a System.Windows.Forms.Timer in class. I
know how to use it on a form, but I don't know how to "put" a timer in a
class (DLL)
Thx !!!

Using Visual Studio 2005, how would I go about creating an application-wide
timer hosted in global.asax? There's certain processes I want to run every
couple of minutes and have had success using tiemrs this way with VS.NET
2003.
However, global.asax seems to have lost it's visual designer in the new VS
2005, so I tried manually creating a timer class in the Global()
constructor, but the Elapsed event doesn't fire. My code is as follows:...

Hi all,
I am using timer to do some functionality on user specified time.
I am using system.timers.timer class and its timer to do this
functionality. What i am doing is i set autoreset to false as i want to
start processing only on user specified time.
I am setting interval as difference between user sepcified time and
current time. And when that elapsed event occured i am again setting

I have created an array of timers (1-n). At first I just created
windows form timers but I read that system timers are better for
background work. The timers will just be monitoring different
directories and updating a database. No interaction with the GUI.
Problem is that the system timers do not have a tag property so I can
tie in an object.
example (old way):

I have just put together a vb.net app and now need to provide it to
users. This application needs to run the code in a sub every 60
seconds from a Windows Service application. I have the functionality
of the sub working fine but I cannot figure out how to run the timer.
The sub DoSomethingHere() needs to run every 60 seconds. It doesn't
need to change the interval or anything like that. It just needs to
run every 60 seconds as long as...

I'm coming from Win32 world. Now, I'm porting the existing code to C#. I
cannot find the equivalent Win32 Waitable Timer in C#. I have a thread to
perform some task periodically like following:
While(...)
{
Do something ...
SetWaitableTimer(hTimer, ...);
WaitForSingleObject(hTimer, ...);

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
