Hi all,

Can one application start another? specifically can a webbased application
start a console based application (exe) or windows based application (exe)
If Yes, can you please suggest some articles or code?

Thanks,
Stephen

I want to write a C#/ASP.NET application where a user can go to a web page, start running a job, close their browser, and then come back later and see the results. The purpose for this application is for a user to be able to use a page on our intranet to start running a time-consuming reporting and analysis job. I'm not sure how to start a process in ASP.NET and then "detach" it, or how to check that it's still running later. I think that maybe...

Dear all, I have an application which is suppose to start another executable process. As soon as that process is running, I need to retrive its handle. The problem of the particular process I am starting is that it has a welcome window first which gets displayed and then the real windows after a while,in other words it means that the process name is the same, but the handle I need to retrive is the one from the final window and not the...

I have an app which moves around between a series of forms. I don't want to keep the forms open but hidden. I need to close them as I switch back and forth from one form to another. Unfortunately, if I start up my app with Application.Run(new formLogin()), for example, as soon as the formLogin gets closed, the whole app exits. Yet, if I start up as follows: (new formLogin()).Show(); Application.Run();

Hi all, I am trying to get my win forms application to start, but I'm hitting a problem which I am certain is really simple. The start for my application is ApplicationManager.cs. This class contains the Main() method and a very simple constructor. The class looks something like this: public class{

Okay, here is what's happening: I have a reasonably fast laptop (1.4 GHz Mobile M, so comparable to 2.5GHz P4) doing .net development. Running Windows XP pro, SP2 IIS is installed and running fine All SQL Servers I am referring to share a small (10 computers or so) LAN with a 100MB Switch. No other computers on the LAN exhibit this problem.

How does one launch multiple forms in an application? Using Photoshop as an example, this application seems to be composed of many 'disjoint' forms. Yet, they all seem somewhat 'active' in contrast to one of them always being 'modal' (e.g., if you are moving over a picture the 'Info' form will update the (x,y) screen location in realtime even if not the selected form. Also note that this example implies the various forms can communicate...

Does anyone have an example of an application that can connect to a running process and capture Trace.WriteLine calls like in SQL Server Profiler? I know that we can inherit from a TraceListener class to write to files, databases, etc..., but I would really like to attach to running .NET processes and get the results without any logging and instead capture the real-time results when troubleshooting.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
