Building an Extensible Web Framework

Any ideas on how to build a web application that can support modules
easily?

Something like DotNetNuke... any other alternative?

What do you guys used to build an extensible web app? I was hoping to find
something with a "plugin" system like what you find in a WinForms app.

Unfortunately I'm stuck with .NET 1.1... but with 2.0 around the corner,
that could be a possiblity.

Hi all, This is to ask a technical question, regarding BEEP or Blocks Extensible Exchange Protocol. I have read in Oreilly's "Web Services Essentials" (By Ethan Cerami) book that SOAP over BEEP is highly efficient that SOAP over HTTP. So if I am thinking of implementing Web Services gateway in my company, is it better to use SOAP over...

Hi, I manage a couple of Web sites which, occasionally, use foreign (i.e. non-English, since English is the language of these sites) words. My elementary school teacher told me that foreign words should be in italics. Fine. I can easily wrap non-English words in <i>Nahuatl phrase</i> tags. But I'd like to know if I can (without toooo...

If in an interview next week I was told to Design and Develop Extensible Web Application Frameworks using Microsoft .NET technologies. How do I break that question down? My first temptation would be, "Isn't the existing .NET framework sufficient?" My first suspicion that I don't have the experience is that I don't know the difference...

I am doing some research into building web applications using Object Oriented techniques. I have found the excellent patterns section on the MSDN site, but other than that I cannot find any good, concrete examples. I know Microsoft are really pushing OO with the .NET Framework and C#, but for web stuff I am finding good examples sparse. Can...

How would I go about using a custom select string that is passed from a form to the SelectCommand parameter of SqlDataSource? I tried: SelectCommand = "<% Request.Form("hdnSelect") %>" but I got an error about putting <% %> tags in a literal. I tried taking out the quotes (the " ") and it didn't do any good. I'm trying to use the built...

I've been having a discussion with some folks here about the wisdom or otherwise of "building extensibility into an API". Consider your favorite function in one of your libraries, perhaps void foo(int bar, char *baz); Now maybe you think of some cool improvement to foo that you could make, but this relies on being able to pass an...

Hi fellow python enthusiasts. Having recently acquired a MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo) which comes with python2.5, I have been installing some modules that I need (PIL, psycopg2, PyXML ...). The problem is that compiles all the binaries to universal files for i386 and ppc32, but not x86_64 or ppc64. It does not appear to be a problem...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then...
