Access Label control in datagrid within datalist

Ok,

This seems like it should be simple, but everytime I access the label,
it's text property is always set to "". Here is the code I am using:

private void dgrComputer_Ite mDataBound(obje ct sender,
System.Web.UI.W ebControls.Data GridItemEventAr gs e) {
if (e.Item.ItemTyp e == ListItemType.It em || e.Item.ItemType ==
ListItemType.Al ternatingItem) {
Label lbl = (Label)e.Item.F indControl("lbl Status");

if (lbl.Text == "True") {
e.Item.BackColo r = Color.Green;
}
else {
e.Item.BackColo r = Color.Red;
}
}
}

I am trying to do conditional processing to change the background color
of the row, I can access the label, but its text property is always set
to "". I have also tried accessing it by using
e.Item.Cells[0].FindControl and a multitude of other different ways but
always with the same results. Does anyone have ideas? this is driving
me up the wall.

thank you
Sean

I have a datalist displaying parent information and a datagrid presenting child information. The data is being rendered just fine. The datagrid has template columns on it that I cannot gain access to in my Itemcommand event of the datalist. When I press a button on the datalist, that brings me into the Itemcommand event. I have access to the datagrid control, but not any column controls on the datagrid. For instance, my first column is...

I want to set the text value of a label that is within a datalist in the codebehind. Does this have to be done in the databound event? Simplified example: <asp:DataList id="dlItem" runat="server"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblItemPrice" runat="server" /> </ItemTemplate> </asp:DataList>

I added a couple of labels and a button to a Datalist control called "dlSignIn" by adding them to the Item template. The labels are bound to a dataset column. Program code gets executed in the dlSignIn_SelectedIndexChanged subroutine when I click the button in the datalist. And the dlSignIn.SelectedIndex property has the correct index for the Datalist row that was selected. Now I would like to access the values in the labels of that...

I have a label control that I've embedded in a datalist template. I will be binding data to that label. I want to run a string formatting function on the database text before it is injected into the datalist. When I try to do this, I get a "... does not exist in the current context. I need to know how to target the control. If I were writing Flash actionscript, it would be something like

On one page I have a datalist where a message is bound to a label. On another page I have the datalist which allows for the insert of new message as well as being able to edit those messages. The editing (EditItemTemplate) has a textbox that loads the message into its text property. The problem I'm running into is working with vbCrLf and <brinterchangeably between the textbox on the admin page and the label on the general message page. I...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
