ASP.net Application Domains Notification Question

I have an asp.net application that clients connect to and block until
data destined for the client is received, and subsequently routed down
the connection. Because of this, it is possible that clients are
connected for an extended period of time. When some event occurs to
the web application, which forces the aspnet_wp.exe to create a new
application domain for the application, is there any way to be notified
of such event? Is there a way to handle via the HTTPApplication or any
other object (Global??) an event that is triggered when a new
application domain is created? Or any where to determine that multiple
application domains exist for the current asp.net Application?

thanks,
-a.n.

I'm trying to isolate "applications" into their own application domain within a single process. I've quoted applications because it's a logical representation of an application. Basically it consists of a bunch of components supplied by some application group. I got this to work, somewhat. The problem is that the application performs roughly (and this has not been measured, but a guess based on the rendering of the application GUI) 10x...

I understand the use of Application.DoEvents() to process all outstanding messages on the message queue in a winforms application if you have long running process on the UI thread. But can anyone explain to me why I need to call DoEvents when I am using a COM component that calls back to into the ..Net application? - If I don't call DoEvents after receiving a callback then sometimes no more messages are pumped, it appears that the message...

An ASP.NET session cookie set on "www.mydomain.com" can not be accessed on "search.mydomain.com"; hence, a new session and cookie are being created on every sub-domain. This is occuring because ASP.NET always sets the Session cookie domain to the full domain (e.g. "www.mydomain.com") instead of the parent domain (e.g. "mydomain.com") The problem with this is when the visitor goes to a different sub-domain (e.g. "search.mydomain.com"),...

I am developing an application using ASP.NET 2.0. In this application, I need to provide customized database-driven interfaces based on the domain name that the user is accessing the application from. A list of these domains will be avialable in a data table. What is the most efficient way to determine which domain the application should respond for each time a page is requested. It would seem that executing a SQL query each time a...

Hi All, I need to write my first "distributed" application and due to my lack of knowledge and experience in that area, I'm stuck on the first big design decision. Reading a lot on distributed applications, remoting, etc didn't help me much for that particular issue. The main data the application manipulates is a list of Queries. A query is a custom object containing an SQL statement and some parameters to allow the query to run...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
